Java 1.6+ problem

Well thanks for the help, guess I will have to wait till they release 1.6 for 32 bit

Now the problem is that I have overwritten my version 4.18.8 Pro with the new ver. 5.0.11 and can only find ver. 4.12.15 Pro on the LW legacy support page. . . . any ideas how I can restore my 4.18.8 LW client please????

The Pro download page has not been updated yet. Probably need to wait until next week due to the weekend. I did inform them about the issue. They did update the Basic download page, not sure why the Pro download page was delayed. If you look at the Basic download page for old installers, that is how you will eventually see the Pro download page, with an option for 4.18 http://www.limewire.com/download/oldversion.php (this link is for Basic only, just showing as an example of what you will see later)

I'm running 10.5.6 on an Intel MacBook Pro, but I still can't get Limewire 5.0 to load. I get the same Java 1.6+ error. Unfortunately, it looks like Apple only offers 1.6 for 64-bit computers. I tried installing Soylatte, and if I run "java -version" from terminal, it shows version 1.6.0_03-p3 installed. But Limewire still refuses to load. Am I stuck with the 4.x versions?

Stief might be better to advise here. hmm, I'd have thought intel MacBooks would definitely be 64-bit. If you were able to install Java 1.6 then that suggests it is a 64-bit machine otherwise you would or should have received an installation error saying unable to install or nothing to install, etc. or so I'd have thought.

Try going to your Java preferences & moving Java 6 (1.6) up the hierarchy of priority of use. Setting up Java for Leopard. Log out & back into your computer after doing this.

Also use Software update & check for any updates. Repair permissions with Disk Utility.

BTW did you previously have LW 4.18 installed on your machine?

I'm definitely on a 32-bit laptop, which is why I installed soylatte instead of the Apple version of 1.6 (which won't even install because I don't have a 64-bit processor). I've downgraded to 4.18 and will live with it until Apple decides to release a new binary that I can use.

It's unlikely Apple will release java 1.6 in 32-bit. Apple's history shows they do not give such java updates for earlier machines.

Thank you for the information. I was unaware there were 32-bit intel macs around. I presumed all were 64-bit. So that makes it even more confusing for mac users.

Hey guys, this is my first post. I have an Intel based Mac Book running OSX 10.5.6. I get the same Java 1.6+ error message. Is there a place where I can see if Im on a 32bit or 64 bit. I can' t find it.

Which model is it? What's the Processor speed & model & monitor size?

Actually the easiest way of finding out is if you are running Leopard OSX 10.5 (which you are) & you do not have Java 6 then your model is not compatible. If it does have Java 6 then it is compatible. Check via Java preferences: Setting up Java for Leopard
