dmg help please!

i just downloaded a program and it was stuffed. i unstuffed the file and the file is a dmg and uncompressed. when i try to open it, it says the program craeated it could not be found is there anything i can do?

maybe i'm wrong but as far as i know, .dmg files can only be mounted in Mac OS X, are you using OS X?
