There is no newest Java Runtime Environment for Macs.
for MacOS there's Java2 v1.1.8, for MacOSX there's Java2 v1.3.1.

All others (Linux, Solaris, Windows...) can have Java2 1.4.1. So MacOS is lacking two years (of java releases) behind the rest of the world and MacOSX 'only' one year.
