Okay David, if you are expecting a quick fix - there is none. And even as a fan of Gnutella in general I have to say it sucks at the moment.

LimeWire merged the largest changes to the main cvs branch today and the beta could be released anytime soon. It will take a few weeks for the changes to be noticeable but I hope they improve your situation and the situation of all users. But in fact LimeWire 2.9 is a version that was just released to ease the transition for the real big changes that will be implemented in Lw 3.0 - so Gnutella's performance will probably not improve at once but gradually within the next two or three months and - honestly - I would try getting some other p2p-applications to use when LimeWire fails.

eDonkey for example has an ugly GUI (on non-windows plattforms) and it is kind of slow at times but it is more reliable than gnutella if you have a flatrate.
