I've just installed Lime Wire with OS 8.6. Everything appears to be working...I can download files BUT the player features do not show up on my screen and they are not listed in Tools either.

That is quite weird. Never heard of that happening.

I don't know how to fix it persay, but would you consider using a different mp3 player?

Go to the player and set it as the default mp3 player.

I have never seen the Lime Wire player, been using LW for years under 8.6-9.1 . I assume this feature is only available in OSX.
