Default Not able to Launch

I just installed Limewire Basic 3.4.5.
I am running OS 9.2
I have iTunes 2 and it IS set as my default MP3 player.

HOWEVER... In Limewire, after i have downloaded a song and i hit Launch, nothing happens. I DO NOT have anything in my Options menu that allows me to set any player preferences. I have not found anything else in my search of this forum that can help me. Can anybody lend a helping hand??

Thought this was fixed. Looks like the OS hasn't mapped mp3's from LW to iTunes. Check by opening your hard drive and finding the folder you set for completed downloads (usually called "Shared".

Do the files have the iTunes icon?

If so, doubleclick to make sure they open in iTunes. That will tell you it's not an OS problem.

If iTunes won't open them, look again at the posts that tell you how to get iTunes to recognize the mp3's from LW.

Post back (I can boot into 9 to check here if necessary) and maybe someone currently using OS 9 and itunes will have a quicker answer.

Cheers

Thanks for replying!

I checked the files in my shared folder, and they do have iTunes icons, and do open in iTunes when i launch them directly from the shared folder. But i still cannot launch them from LimeWire--which i guess isn't a huge deal, but it would be nice if that function worked.

I just booted into 9 and installed LW3.4.5 Pro for Macintosh (NoVM).
The launch button worked, but for Quicktime.

So installed iTunes 2.0.4, set iTunes to be the default internet player during the install (also checked it in the itunes prefs later) and the launch button works: it fired up a partially downloaded song from the LW downloads pane to iTunes.

Yes, but as i mentioned in my first post, i have LW Basic (the free version)... not Pro. Is it possible there is a bug in the basic version that disables the launch? or is launch not supposed to work in basic??

There's no difference. Pro just helps the development of the LW project, and doesn't have any ads.

Did you try going to iTunes 2.0.4->Edit->Preferences and setting the preference to make iTunes the default for internet playback?

Yup... that was actually one of the first things i tried. Perhaps something got screwy when i installed LW to begin with?? Would reinstalling help at all do you think?

It should. I vaguely recall some problem with the iTunes prefs in the past. Might be worth trashing those first just in case.

You could also just trash the LW prefs (System Folder->Preferences->.limewire->limewire.props. That one has your settings. The fileurns.cache contains the hash of your shared files, and if you are sharing a lot, it's the one that takes so long to rebuild when starting up. If you only have a few files and don't mind starting from scratch, just trash the whole .limewire folder.

For a simple uninstall, run the uninstaller in the LW folder. You can run sherlock to find any other LW files that don't get uninstalled. The installer also writes a file called .com.zerog.registry.xml. I like to delete it, but I don't know what it does.

You can leave your incomplete folder as is (the downloads.dat file in it remembers what it can to resume incomplete files), but if you don't mind losing any incomplete downloads, delete that folder too to really restore your HD.

Hope trashing the iTunes prefs works, but going through the uninstall process can be good to know.
