Not sure if the problem is with java or the LW prefs according to the error message, but use Sherlock to search for "lime" to also find the preferences. If you trash them, a fresh set will be installed the next time.
In case the problem is with java, here's the link to download the proper java for OS 9. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75097
When you download a fresh installer, use the "No VM" one for Mac OS.
