I am trying to setup an exception for the firewall on the pc. Can someone explain to me what I should write exactly in the fields? Windows firewall/advanced/services/add... Description of service: (LimeWire...duh...) Name or IP address of computer hosting this service on your network:.......??? which one should I write the mac's or the pc's, the internal or the external? External port number for this service:.....??? 6346 or 6348? Internal port number for this service:....??? 6346 or 6348? TCP or UDP? BTW can one of you try to connect to my mac's IP and tell me if it was with a pc or a mac and if it worked? [Edit] |
I double checked and the UPnP is enabled for the router and there is an exception setup already for LW, but I want to make another one manually. |
You have to open both UDP and TCP protocols. If what you told me earlier is exact, the 6348 should forward to the lan IP of your mac, while 6346 would redirect to the lan IP of your PC. The best thing to do first is to set static lan IPs to your computers. http://www.portforward.com/networkin...ic-xp-dhcp.htm For mac os x, you should use sys prefs, network, TCP/IP -> configure IPv4 via DHCP and manual address, this is the easiest way to do it. Bonne chance |
So far I haven't been able to DC with that ip & either port 6346 or 6348 using win or mac. I'll try again later. (By they way that Dave softw I was refering to is for networking b/w a mac & pc & makes it easy. I have a friend who uses it. And it (an earlier version) was already on another 2nd hand G4 we got last year. Networking directly might be the go.) As I recall your modem also accepts USB. Though I wouldn't normally recommend usb if you have ethernet. LOL I think I'm slow this time of day! Particularly my posting. After seeing et voilą's post I think I'm not the right suggestion at the moment. A firewall/? may explain why I can't DC though! |
I don't understand because I just direct connected with someone that has a pc! My firewall (mac) is definately disabled and if I was able to connect, you should be able too, no??? This is really getting weird. Maybe I'm getting too tired also! The pc doesn't connect to anyone at all, it's not even just with my mac. |
Hiya, schmoozie... Well, now... Wasn't that fun ??? You sure did get a lot of responses... which proves how great these Gnutella Forums really are, hmmm ? And.... A note for you freaks out there who think that there is too much moderator action around here... All of the edits performed above were due to both the House Rules AND a personal request from the world famous 'schmoozie' ! p.s. I am (unfortunately !) somewhat of an 'expert' on Direct Connecting within the Gnutella Network... Please understand that even if you have 'Hers & His' ( like the order ?) bathrooms that both have computers and internet connections (in the SAME house), that does NOT... NOT... NOT... (geddit ?) Not mean that you will 'probably' connect or 'find' one another within the Gnutella Network !!! Amusing, huh ? Doing so-called 'direct connects' within the Gnutella Network requires quite a bit of practice and DEFINITELY both (all) users also using an independent (Meaning not part of any Gnutella Network Client service) CHAT connection. btw... LotR, although suffering from one of the most serious problems that man has ever known... (being Australian !)... is actually one of the few survivors on this blighted planet who will be able to solve your problems... Well, the computer problems, at least ! :p |
I can't even find the damn start button to disable my firewall. when i enable the chat it doesn't do anything!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!! |
UPnP :PEACE:If you have a DSL modem, it also has to be Universal Plug & Play enabled in it's modem configuration setup. Call your ISP tech support & they can guide you through your particular modem setup. Good luck!!!!!! Quote:
