Default new 2 mac/limewire - have a few questions!!

hi. can someone explain a few things.... when i search something there appears to be more available in the title box than actually in the window. eg search on say "elvis" says there's 850 files, but when i scroll through the window there's only 450. in the second column in, there's sometimes a number. am i right to think this is the number of users who have this file, explaining why there's more on the title bar than the window?

if thats the case, how do i browse a particular user? and is there an option to only search users with available slots(and can limewire use multiple slots per user?)

also, in connections, where do i find out ip's so i connect to another host? how many hosts can i connect to at any one time? and whats the best hosts to connect to?

i've opened up the chat column in my download queue but it's pretty quiet. i've enabled chat in preferences too. and i can't find a text bar to actually say anything myself. so how does that work?

and finally, phew...!! thanks for any help. much appreciated

Yes your guess is right. The no.'s under the # column represents how many sources (other people) your search found that have that same file. So if you add all those no.'s up, it will equal the total found in the search result.

On Mac, use Control-click on a user to find a Browse or Chat option. It is much easier to browse those that have chat enabled. You should put this column into view so you know who has chat enabled. See the following link & follow all the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link) & a lot of your answers are there (just keep clicking the links.) To chat, click into the bottom part of the chat window & start typing & press Send message.

Direct connect is better if you already have the ip such as from a friend or from a previous browse.

How many hosts can you connect to at one time? Um .. not sure. lol The question is a little broad. LW Basic connects to 3 peers & Pro connects to 5, but that's only for connecting to the Gnutella network. As far as how many files you can downld at one time, you can set this under LW Preferences>Downlds>Max Downld slots. Whether this is from one person or more depends on your choices. Of course you'd need a good fast bandwidth to downld many files simultaneously. Yes you can downld many from one user "IF" they have free upload slots & they have enough upld bandwidth left over. (1 slot per file.)

thanks vmuch. am still having problems with the chat. i don't seem to be able to see specific users anywhere. i can right click in the hash cloumn and browse, but it doesn't let me choose exactly who to browse, it just opens up a window for one user. and i don't know how to find the ip for a host from previous browse's. <sighing> such a novice!

Chat & browse are both a hit & miss affair. When you use the Browse, it will do a search of their comp. if it can, & it will show their ip in the search label. That's where you get the ip. As for chat, well if you set it up so you can view who has chat enabled then you should be able to send a chat. But remember, lots of people leave their LW running overnight, or away during the day whilst they're at work or school or hidden in the background whilst they work on other things on the comp.
