Default slots

i have win xp, w/ T1 speed.

mine is set at 2 per/5-9 total, (total varies depending on speed of up-loads.) (and is limited for speed.) the only time i ever saw "up-load limit reached" & "banned greedy" was when i was on dial-up. then i had 1per/ 2total.
i used to watch searches, don't now. i don't see any difference in browsing, chatting, up or down loads.

Sonnet, i was prob the host you killed. lol. i download albums, which means i download from 5-63 songs at a time. since alot of people have albums, generally they will come from the same host. (then it takes half a day listening to, editing and moving the album.)

i have never been able to D L more than (3) songs at a time from the same host. my up-loads are set at 12-16, (for multiple hosts.) actual songs D L are only about 8-9 at a time. don't have probs finishing the albums.

p.s. i've never used I-Tunes, but when i up-graded it and pulled it up my L W library was all there.
my question is: why do you need it running while on L W? since all songs go there anyway?

Banned Greedy Client is something LW does, not a user does. LW will automatically ban clients (usually older versions of LW or other gnutella programs) that continually make the same requests in short succession in a short time. The gnutella network dev community try to keep traffic down by improving the programs all the time & agreeing to certain protocols. Older versions were not so community friendly re: traffic.

Re: iTunes; it will open automatically a song has finished downlding. And I think most OSX users would prefer to use iTunes compared to the LW media player for listening anyway. lol

Limewire@version@ is not an official LW release!!! It is prolly a scam release or a variant cvs that doesn't play by the rules or ...

I think Verdyp's descriptions here are helpful: 1. Limewire@version@, & particularly this one:
2. Limewire@version@ & other descriptions

ie: Limewire@version@ is a good way to detect a scam version or unofficial version. I wouldn't trust one if I see one. I have & chopped them from my upload list.

Nice thread

LimeWire@version@ are OK (anyone who uses a CVS version will show as an "@"). Actually, I usually trust those more than other versions, since it usually means one of the devs or other experts who know how to build LW directly from the source is a t the other end. jum versions are CVS versions with jum's additions, and they are trustworthy. I haven't built from the CVS for a while, but it's fun to do and you get to try out the daily changes right away without having to wait for the devs to release a version.

I've noticed that when the magnetmix files are delivered from an "@" version, it means they are coming directly from one of LW's servers, and have the best speeds.

Re the freezing when verifying files: I've had that happen when I start LW right after a safe boot and/or after a repaired permissions session. I'm not sure why the verifying code gets locked up under those conditions, but after a while (or quitting and then restarting), it's gone. I've been trying to repeat the process, but not very successfully.

Yes, that was me. I don't know what possessed me to write such a detailed post as above last night; must have had lots of energy.

Thanks for the tip, LOTR. I'll have to wade through my incompletes. I've noticed a slowdown, and my incompletes folder has increased, so perhaps that is why. I wish that when I deleted something from my downloads that it would automatically delete it from my incompletes, but I appear to have to sort through them by hand.

I now recall I have Norton Speed Disk. I seem to remember liking it, and it was recommended to me by a Mac friend of mine.

Sorry if it was you I killed; lol

I do have mine set to 1,000 files per person, so I don't mind if people have that many; but for some odd reason LW was being way too generous in its allocation of upload slots and queues for this one IP address. Usually it only allocates one to each IP; anyone else gets an "Upload Limit Reached" error. It's tricky for me, because I'm balancing people who want smaller files with files that may be 500 MB. I try to allow both.

As to why you can't do more than three from one host, I don't know what that would be, unless someone has literally allocated only three files per user. If so, I think that limit is aburd for music files. Or, maybe there is a bug in LW which doesn't properly allocate slots as happened with me. I don't know if that was a one-time occurrence or not, as I'm usually not watching it.

Off topic but seems like there was mention of someone around here with a ton of hd space they use to share a lot of files; several G worth, I believe. I'd like to find out who that is and see if they would be interested in taking some of my files; my hd is almost out of free space. I'm going to burn them to CD but it seems a shame to not have them enter the P2P community. Rather than stop sharing due to lack of space, at least for now, I'd like to see the files get a good home.
