 I download straight to my iTunes music folder, and share certain artists from there. So only one copy of each song. Works fine on a Mac. I have heard that this might cause problems on Windows, but do not have confirmation of that. Btw you can chose whether iTunes copies tunes into the itunes music folder or not in iTunes>preferences>advanced>general
