I can see that many people are having trouble with their Macs and LW!.

I have been using LW and Gnutella almost since it's infancy my first version I downloaded was 1.2 and my experience with it was terrible to say the least but the situation improved for each new version but I was never quite pleased with the situation untill version 1.8c was out.Here are the problems I had with it and my specs at the time:

Version 1.2-1.8c:

My computer's spec's:

iMac DV Srawberry 400MHz power pc G-3 processor
64MB RAM 128MB VM enabled on my HD 10GB ATA-66 5400rpm HD
Mac OS 9.0-9.04.32MB assigned to LW.56k V.90 modem

Here are the problems I encountered at that time:
Frezzes once every 5 minutes that lasted for 30 sec and then the computer un frozze itself just to frezze once again 5 minutes later.And about 2 times every day the computer would frezze completely and forced me to re-boot the computer.I could only run LW as a stand alone application If I tryed to run anything else at the same time I would be asking for trouble.

Present situation:
Version of LW 2.4.4!
Computer spec's:

iMac DV Strawberry 400MHz Power PC G-3 processor
320MB RAM VM turned off 41GB IBM ULTRA ATA-100 7200RPM HD
Mac OS 9.1. 41 MB RAM assigned to LW version 2.4.4
MRJ 2.2.4 Swedish version.ADSL broadband

The biggest reason I upgraded my RAM was so that I could turn off Virtual Memory on my HD and also run multiple applications at the same time.The reason I choosed exactly 320MB was because that is the exact limit when Apple recommends that you should turn OFF VM if you have less RAM then you should turn on VM.So this is one of the disadvantages of using Mac compared to PC's we need more physical RAM to have a computer that runns more smoothly and faster.The VM on Windows works better then Apple's Mac OS VM.

So now under this situation everything works wonderfully good and I am happy.Now I usually run the following applications at the same time:

IE 5.1.4
Mac Satellite 1.6.1
Mac IC connection app
iTunes 2.0.4
LimeWire 2.4.4
MSN Messenger 2.1
+ Some other app

And LW never frezzes on me and runs fast all the time(Ofcourse it is still slow to launch (Java disadvantage) but since I only do that once a day it does not mather).

My advice would be to get more RAM so that you have 320MB or more and to turn off VM and upgrade to latest version of LW and MRJ and all should be fine.
