.zip archives open useless .exe files

iMac G5 1st generation with PPC OS 10.4.11.

I have read and reread several posts on the subject. I tried several types of unarchival software to no avail. All of them unarchived to an .exe file.

Is there one that will open .zip file into a usable format. And it's not just one .zip file, it's ALL of them, and this for the last 4 years!!

Could it be that this is because all the files are archived using MacIntel Macs?

I hope you guys and/or dolls can help me resolve this.
