Unhappy help with mp3s

Every time I download what Limewire says is an mp3, once downloaded it is a .doc on my computer. Is there anything I can do to make mp3s download as what they are?

Thanks!!

You need ResEdit to change the file type. Or there are other File Type/Creator programs available as well.

In ResEdit, goto File>Get File/Folder Info then choose your file. You will see fields for Type and Creator near the top. For Soundjam, change them to MPG3 & SJAM. If you want to change them to something else, do the Get File... on a file that is like the one you want to change the corrupt file to and then copy the info.

You could also try getting your computer to recognize mp3’s. Open the 'File Exchange' control panel; under the 'PC Exchange' tab click Add, a window with the title 'Add Mapping' will display a list of all the applications on your HD. From the list pick an application that supports mp3 format (like QuickTime or iTunes). Select a mp3 from the 'File Type', and type mp3 in the 'Extension' field, then click Add. You should repeat this for each mp3 application you have.

Cool

problems with your fresh downloads that appear as .doc? just put a .mp3 after the title and hopefully it will turn from a document icon to a quicktime icon.

Smile MP3 solution

Make sure the file name isn't too long -- Mac's only use 32 characters, so I shortened all the song titles. Then add .mp3 at the end of the file.

To change the file name -- double click the folder that holds your MP3's. Click 1 time on the file name -- not the icon. It should change color. Start typing the new name, remembering to add .mp3 at the end.

Open Quicktime (or whatever MP3 player you use.) Go to FILE, Open Movie, and from the window that appears go to where the file is stored and double click it. It should then play.

The above solved all my Mac MP3 problems and this solution is listed in the Mac FAQ posted by LimeWire (see first post by moderator).
