Try going to your control panel and clicking on the windows firewall. Then choose (allow a program through the firewall) in the next pop-up box choose (add program) then browse and go to LimeWire and click on it then click oK.

Grandpa March 29th, 2007 04:54 PM

Uninstall McAfee and get a different AV like avast. McAfee is known to cause problems with LimeWire.

Firstly go to File (in limewire window) and make sure your connected there, if it is try disconnect and then connect....

If no success try deleting your preference folder...The instructions are in this thread - point 2 onwards...

chris27_70 July 7th, 2007 04:51 PM

had the same problem but I had to go into my internet connection and change it so that it would connect to the limewire network and I also uninstalled mcafee and installed Avast anti-virus and now LW works!! You can try that.

DeadlyRadiance January 18th, 2008 08:55 AM

I have the same problem but I don't run McAffe I run the Norton Internet protection thing.
I've gone and manually opened a port with the ID code IN LW for their port, and still nothing.
I've approved it with Vista's "Approved for FireWall Butt ****ing" list..

Still nothing..
Should I just go and download Avast and uninstall Norton?

Anyone with Vista Problems, please read!!!!

I have been using Vista business for about a year and a half now. I know I've used Limewire on my machine before, but recently, I noticed that that I kept getting the connecting message that alot of you mentioned and it would never connect. I don't use Mcafee, so I knew that wasn't the problem. I use symantec, windows defender and windows firewall. I disabled all of those services(including security center) and I still had the same problem. I downloaded the reccomended java version, still no change. As a matter of fact I tried everything I saw that was applicable to my setup and nothing changed. Then I went to the sticky for people having issues trying to connect and having issues located here:

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

and tried the very first step, download gnutella.net and delete the old file and put the new file in my folder. As soon as I started limewire I was connected with 4 bars!

Hope this helps!

Try the fixes here: If LW Will Not Connect

If nothing helps, post back with your system details. That thread has info about the details, so do the forum rules which you had to read before posting. Without those details, we can't give you any more help.

2.- uninstall programs

4.- unistall privacy service and spam killer
5.- restart you computer and you'll be able to conect to internet and use Lime Wire at the same time as well as you internet explorer.

I had to call mc afee to figure this out cuz was been a pain in the a....:bangh: this problem and this is the only solution that they have for now until they fix those compatibility problems with vista, mc afee and LW.

I have my laptop with vista, lime wire and explorer working really good, any question contact me @ *email address removed*
