Can't Connect With VISTA!

I finally got Limewire to download with Vista, but now I can't get it to connect! I opened the ports on my firewall and granted full permission in every way I know how but nothing. Anyone know how I can fix it?

Successful Limewire download with Vista!!!

Sorry to bother, but I had the same problem you're having.
Try downloading the offline version of java 6 restarting the computer, then downloading limewire. It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you as well.

bubbadog February 4th, 2007 06:15 AM

this is exactly what is happening to me. But just FYI, a quicker, but not much less annoying way to get your internet back is to go disable then enable your local area or wireless connection in 'manage network connections'.

bubbadog February 4th, 2007 08:43 AM

Thanks. Any idea how we can correct the Vista/Limewire problem?

zmcooke February 4th, 2007 09:53 AM

Same Thing

That is the exact problem I have. I got LW to finally install. Only problem is, it connects for maybe a minute with only 3 bars then drops to 1. Afterwards, my internet connection is shot. I have to do the same disabling of my connection just to get it back. What is so different about Vista. My LW always ran perfectly smooth on XP.

Make sure you have set up your firewall properley.

Grandpa February 4th, 2007 10:57 AM

Also you may want to try updating your firmwar on your Linksys router for the disconnecting issue. Many routers have problems with drooping connections and having to reset them.

tsp120 February 4th, 2007 11:53 AM

I've already done that too. LOL.

I am stumped.

quisey2007 February 4th, 2007 05:22 PM

I am having the same problem

Grandpa February 4th, 2007 06:23 PM

The problem most likely is with your router. There are apparently allot of people having the same disconnect problem as you using the WRT54G ver.6.

Help

ok guys here's what happened to me. I downloaded offline version of java 6 then downloaded and installed limewire it worked perfect...I had a turbo connection for about 2 hours. I was just downloading songs and all of a sudden my internet went down, so I restarted. When i restarted limewire had somehow uninstalled itself so i reinstalled it and it hasn't worked since. I have a cable modem...help please.....

MHatten42 February 6th, 2007 08:54 AM

Alright so i have Windows Vista and i just recently installed limewire on my new computer. Limewire beta 4.13.0 is what i installed so when trying to connect to download music and things
message pops up saying - your computer does not appear to have an active internet connection or a firewall(s) are blocking so and so fourth...LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking LimeWire's access to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire access to the internet and restart LimeWire.

so i did just that, i have McAfee Security Center
and i have Windows Firewall on my computer which has its on firewall and Windows Defender i tryed disabling all these firewalls and i still have problems and it makes my internet stop working period and then i have to close limewire to get my internet to work again so how can i get limewire to work without making my internet mess up and allow them both to work at the same time?

I got LW installed. Only problem is, it connects for maybe a minute with only 3 bars then drops to 1. Afterwards, my internet connection is shot. I have to do the same disabling of my connection just to get it back. What is so different about Vista. My LW always ran perfectly smooth on XP.

birdy February 6th, 2007 01:29 PM

MHatten42,
AFAIK that Conexant D850 is an internal modem...do you have an external modem/router? As you can see here...
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=66796
...port forwarding might be necessary if there is an external device.

Try the tips below & see if they're any help with your problem of losing connection
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...10&postcount=2

Because Vista is so new & not many of us are using it (I'm not), you might have to be patient & wait until a Vista user sees your post. Posting the same question 6 times is not going to get you an answer any faster.

Most likely LimeWire is overloading your modem/Router some how. I am using a linksys wired router which had the same problem when I was running XP Pro until I changed my firmware it took 2 different versions of firmware before I found one that would not drop the connection when running LimeWire. Whenever it drooped the connection I would have to reboot the router in order to make it connect again.

Since I changed the firmware it very rarely happens any more and it has not happened once yet with Vista ultimate. I would suggest looking around for different firmware for your modem/router.

The link below is a good place to start looking for firmware and solutions.

McAfee!

I read this thread where someone contacted a Gateway rep who told them that McAfee was interfering with Vista alot! Uninstall it. I tried it, (even though I don't own a Gateway), and IT WORKED!!! LW is running flawlessly and my internet isn't hijacked anymore! Give it a try and post what you think.

To all the people who's connection is shot please read my foum. If you've tried everything else. I put in step by step everything that I did and what went wrong. My internet would go down as soon as I tried to download it. It is the Mcafee anti-virus system. As soon as I deleted it I was okay.

McAfee

I'm having the same problem and I do have McAfee but what if I don't want to uninstall it? Is there any settings that I can change in McAfee to make it work without uninstalling the program? I kind of wanted to keep my antivirus program becuz I'm kind of paranoid about things.:w00t: Or is there a better FREE antivirus program that I can use?

jay651 February 19th, 2007 12:20 PM

I have Norton AV 2007, and i tried uninstalling it to see if that would work, but LW still wouldn't connect.

Grandpa February 19th, 2007 02:37 PM

moonbaby

You can use Avast or any number of other anti viruses that do not affect LimeWire.

Avast is free and is among the top rated anti viruses. It also uses far less resources than most AV software.

But I did see where another member of the forums was having problems with Avast causing timeouts with there ISP. You can get Avast at the link below

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Jay651

Did you try Portforwarding

Mr McGrunt February 21st, 2007 04:31 PM

Getting LimeWire to work with Vista/McAfee

I finally got LimeWire to work by finding the port LimeWire uses to communicate and making an exception in the McAfee firewall. Right after I saved the settings, my internet browser came back online and I could finally browse through music. Hope this helps you out.

jesseg727 February 22nd, 2007 12:14 AM

Mr McGrunt how do you find the port limewire uses?

Mr McGrunt February 22nd, 2007 04:44 PM

To find LimeWire's listening port go to Tools/Options/Click the Advanced drop down arrow/Firewall Config and the port number will be listed at the top of the menu. Just add that port number (or set it to one that is already open) to your firewall excluded list.

jay651 February 23rd, 2007 10:23 PM

Grandpa, I tried downloading avast and then port forwarding it still didn't work. I also downloaded Bearshare and it works. I know these two basically are the same and I still don't know why LW wont connect.

moonbaby4885 February 24th, 2007 09:54 AM

same for me.....port forwarding and turning off mcafee didnt work...and i also tried re-downloading java...and bearshare and soul seek work for me..but i dont like those programs i like limewire...kazaa wont work for me either :/

Grandpa February 24th, 2007 10:38 AM

1 Attachment(s)
Go to Start>Control Panel>Security Center on the left side of the security center pop-up chose Windows Firewall on the firewall pop-up choose change settings. On the settings pop-up choose exceptions. Un-check the LimeWire box the re-check the LimeWire box then click OK and see if that helps

woodsgurl February 24th, 2007 11:50 AM

I just purchased a computer with windows vista already loaded on it. I have tried to download limewire...which downloads onto my computer with no problem but, does show there is a firewall or I'm not connected to the internet message...I have made an exception for limewire in my windows firewall program and still not able to connect to limewire....to top it off I also am not able to use my att/yahoo dsl internet services as well...SOMEONE PLEASE HELP...I feel as though it was a big mistake purchasing a computer with windows vista as the operating system.

Grandpa February 24th, 2007 11:54 AM

Apparently you are able to get to the Internet or did you make this post from a different computer.

woodsgurl February 24th, 2007 11:56 AM

grandpa I had to delete limewire from my program files to make this post..so I no longer have limewire downloaded on my computer

Grandpa February 24th, 2007 12:06 PM

Are you using McAfee

(Answered by PM)

Mr McGrunt February 24th, 2007 02:35 PM

*takes a deep breath* Ok. I did upgrade Java to 1.6 before I made any exceptions for McAfee (if that makes any difference). LimeWire is also marked as an exception in the Windows Firewall list (under control panel). Also, your not using port forwarding (at least i don't have to with my setup). You just have to find the "Listening Port" and mark that port number as an exception under McAfee - don't mess with the port forwarding. Hope this helps.

Solution for windows vista, mc afee and LW!!1

I tried a lot of things regards mc afee, vista and LW. The only solution to keep you antivirus and run Lime wire without problems is:

1.- go to control panel
2.- uninstall programs
3.- select mc afee
4.- unistall privacy service and spam killer
5.- restart you computer and you'll be able to conect to internet and use Lime Wire at the same time as well as you internet explorer.

I had to call mc afee to figure this out cuz was been a pain in the a....:bangh: this problem and this is the only solution that they have for now until they fix those compatibility problems with vista, mc afee and LW.

I have my laptop with vista, lime wire and explorer working really good, any question contact me @* email address removed*

Hope this work for you folks!!!:rolleyes_2:
