also, i can't seem to find the preferences file in vista (even though hidden files are all being shown)

Try the steps in this link and see if you can find it that way....I don't use Vista so I'm not to sure where exactly it will be...

I've managed to get it working. just running it thru the administrator seems to work. Thanks anyway for the help

I did everything in #49 and got LW to connect, but now nothing downloads...back to the drawing board!

Just check this...Go to Tools > Options > Searching > Lisence Warning and make sure the box is not ticked and then select apply...

ok I have tried all of the above I have even uninstalled Mcafee completely! and i now have avast. It still doesn't connect! Any thing else I can do?? The play buttons on the bottom of limewire is black and you can't see the buttons. I have DSL and I am always connected to the internet...I also have Vista.

had the same problem but I had to go into my internet connection and change it so that it would connect to the limewire network and I also uninstalled mcafee and installed Avast anti-virus and now LW works!! You can try that.

I have the same problem but I don't run McAffe I run the Norton Internet protection thing.
I've gone and manually opened a port with the ID code IN LW for their port, and still nothing.
I've approved it with Vista's "Approved for FireWall Butt ****ing" list..

Still nothing..
Should I just go and download Avast and uninstall Norton?

I'd like to report that with the latest McAfee updates last month Limewire and McAfee work perfectly under Vista. Thnx McAfee crew for the good work. A user from the Netherlands, Europe.
