Help with computer diconnecting and reconnecting in any program

I have an Acer laptop model 5610Z with windows Vista. Since I got DSL it disconnects and reconnects in any program by itself. What can I do to solve this problem? I have Norton but it isn't completely installed. i have Windows Defender. I run a scan but it says everything is fine. My son has an Acer laptop but doesn't have Vista and his runs fine. Can someone help me with this problem?
