Default Connection problems!

First off, I'll list my specs:

OS Version - Vista Home Premium
Firewall - Zone Alarm Free
Ram - 2046 MB
Hard Disk space available - 107 gig
Connection type - Cable
Modem & router brand name & model numbers - NEC ATUR110H
Connecting - from home
Running - Limewire 4.12.11
ISP - Netvigator?
The page did say 'Your test worked!'.
I am sharing the home connection with two other computers
I have used Limewire before on my previous laptop (XP) with no problems. Until I got this new laptop with Vista.
I do see the brick wall over the blue icon
I use AVG FREE antivirus
I live in Hong Kong

I used Limewire fine on my old laptop until I upgraded to a new one with Vista. Other computers on the network have no problem with connecting to the "network" at present but mine is unable to do so. I do not use a router. It just sits there with one green bar and when I try to search it says it is connecting and I may not get many results until it does. I have allowed Limewire access to all zones on my firewall, and have tried the appdata delete thing too. I have tried for many hours and am extremely frustrated.
Please help.

Try these fixes...
Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Try going into the settings for Windows Live OneCare and allowing LimeWire through the firewall...

Are you sure that the make and model number for your modem/router is correct ??
I checked on google and there is no info about it, not one search result...

Have a look underneath it and just check....

First of all, it is a modem, not a router just to clarify.
Well, the company who makes it is "NEC"

The model no. is:

ATU-R110H

Thanks

Just to confirm what WW said, I too cannot find any trace of your NEC modem on the internet, it doesn't even show up on the main NEC site. I get the feeling that it is possibly a modem made by another company for and badged by NEC, which could be a reason why there is no individual entry for it.

OK, since we don't know anything about your modem can I ask a couple of questions.

a) Are you connected by wire or wirelessly to this modem?

b) Are you the Administrator of this modem?

I am connected by wire to this modem, and I guess I would be the administrator considering I'm the most tech savvy guy in my home.

Your problem is going to be difficult to solve, so I am going to make a few suggestions which may seem silly but be patient (coz' I am guessing).

1) Have you switched off your Vista Firewall, which is probably turned on by default.

2) You're connected to the internet via cable (and cable modem) so there should not be a built in firewall, however as the administrator you should confirm that there is not an additional one blocking you.

3) It would not hurt to contact your modem's supplier and find out if there are any known issues between your modem and Vista.

Let us know how you get on.

1) Yes, the windows firewall is off

2) There's nothing blocking me there

3)I'll have to try that.

I have noticed on the older computers on the network that limewire works, but I also have noticed that they are older versions. Would this have anything to do with the problem?

Thanks for your help, I'll keep trying and researching,

FunkyChin

It should not make any difference but, to be honest, it's an unknown quantity. I say it should not make any difference but I have noticed something similar myself with my own equipment.

I had a single user modem, the Thomson ST510 (v6), which worked well with my LW Pro V4.9.x but when I upgraded to a multi-user modem, the Thomson ST585 (v6), my LW worked at first then it stopped. However, when I upgraded my LW Pro to version 4.12.15 everything started to work fine again.

So, the only thing you can do to either prove or disprove what you have noticed is to install and try an older version of LW (and the same old version of java) on your new laptop.

Good luck

UK Bob
