Default Try this again

I asked for help with this problem twice in another thread but have gotten no responses after a week. I guess I'll try this route again.

I'm having the same problem most are, can't connect to limewire. It doesn't fully shade in the bars.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Vista

2. What firewalls you have? windows firewall

3. How much ram? 2

4. Hard Disk space available? a lot

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) cable via router

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? no idea

7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? home

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. the newest version whatever that one is

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? shaw

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? test worked

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. using a router, not sure exactly what the question is asking.

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem experienced user.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface?

Hi munkeechi...Sorry for the delay sometimes it's better to start your own thread, it can be overlooked if you post onto others...

I'd say your problems lay with your ISP as Shaw (Canada) as they are known for shaping p2p bandwidth...

Acceptable Use Policy

You may also have a Nat firewall within your modem/router (the box that connects you to the internet)...
If you look under it you should see the brand name and the model for it...

you'll have to excuse my ignorance (computer are not my thing by far lol) but what do you mean by shaping bandwith? If it works ok on my father's computer (same household) on the same isp, shouldn't it work on mine?
There is no nat firewall on our router (asked the old man... he's a computer nut). We just can't figure it out. I'm now not only having problems with limewire but another website I download games from. It's telling me it cannot connect to the internet when I am always connected.

We tried working with the wireless settings, doing something (I have NO idea what!) to the ummm wish I could remember what it's called but it's like the background system, almost a log of everything that ever gets done on the computer.. we used something called ccleaner for it? We've played around with firewalls, antivirus.. we've tried so many different things I quite honestly can't remember what they all are.

Needless to say, it is getting frustrating.. more so because I would really like to play the game I want more than limewire. It seems the problem occured once I uninstalled Norton antivirus a few weeks ago, however I did uninstall it correctly so I really don't know...

Ok there's a few things to try...If your Dads computer connects without any problems so should yours...

Let's start with your Java version...
Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder/s...
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

If you still cannot connect tell me the make and model number for your router...
Also your symantic antivirus, what version is it...

Try this as well...
Uninstall your symantic antivirus, Uninstall your Limewire....Then re-install limewire and then re-install your symantic antivirus...
