stuck @ 12 %(loading HTML engine...)

After an Uninstall of Lime Wire and a subsequent download of Lime Wire (which was a hassle in and of its self), Lime Wire is stuck in the opening screen (Lime Wire logo with a green background) at "12%(Loading HTML engine...). Any other attempts to uninstall and re-download Lime Wire have produced the same result. Ultimately, this is the best result thus far, but it has not gotten any further than that. Previous to that, I have had other problems downloading Lime Wire after I Uninstalled Lime Wire from my computer. I am not sure if the original Uninstall deleted ALL of the Lime Wire files and duplicate files of Lime Wire now exist after a second, thidr, and fourth download attempt of Lime Wire. Would duplicate files create these kinds of problems for Lime wire? Do I have to COMPLETELY clean my computer of ANY files of Lime Wire (excluding downloaded files) in order for a reinstall to work? I would appreciate any guidance or help. Sorry for the spelling errors. Please excuse my lack of any technical jargon, I am still in the dark ages with reagrds to computers.

How did you uninstall limewire?
If you're doing it via Add/Remove programs then that can cause problems!!
The correct way to uninstall is Start > All programs > Limewire/Uninstaller

Use your computer's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name. If you can't delete them, reboot into safe mode & then try. If they still won't delete, try one of the tools here...
Incomplete Download File won't delete at all.

Then when that is done...
Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Then install limewire using the offline installer...To find the offline installer, use the link below > cancel the installer window when it pop's up and then select the offline installer link...
Lime Wire » Download LimeWire

If that does not help with your problem try deleting your preference folder/s...

LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

jmavsmith71, all you have to do, is find your limewire folder and create a new complete folder. It probably got deleted somehow. In your limewire folder create new folder then rename it complete. It worked for me.

jmavsmith71 September 5th, 2007 01:04 PM

Thanks Pinhead, and I mean that in the nicest terms. When you are talking about the "complete" folder, are you refering to completed downloaded files? Are you saying that once I download Limewire, just go into the limewire folder and create a new "Complete" file where all the downloaded files will go?

again, thank you

12% load freeze solution

KK, My friend and I both just had an excruciating experience with this on our windows vista laptops.. btw, we were running firefox ....

Here's how we BOTH fixed this problem.... this may only apply to vista machines tho... sorry

We changed the shortcut to and the limewire.exe file itself both to compatibility with windows XP sp2 by left-clicking the icons and going under the compatibility tab.

Then we left clicked the shortcut and chose "run as administrator"

after doing this the program hung up at 19% and said something about a "save folder" being damaged or missing. after hitting the "OK" button on this dialog box another dialog box came up asking us to choose a folder to stand in for the "missing or damaged" saved folder...

We simply created a folder named "saved" and this solved the problem....

Cheers for that...;) We need all the Vista advice we can get...

Coffeennicotine your the man!

amorarite September 21st, 2007 03:24 PM

This worked for me

If Coffeennicotine's suggestion doesn't work for you try this.

Uninstall Limewire
Go to search for files, type in limewire and delete any files that come up. Make sure you delete the shared folder. It seems to be the main problem.
Now just reinstall limewire and it should run smoothly.

Make sure you do this FIRST before searching for any limewire files & deleting them. Otherwise you will get into all types of problems with getting LW operating at all. ;)
Generally the search for limewire files is best sorted by deleting the LW preferences folder; Easy instructions & sample image ;)

Ohmigoodness, I had this exact same problem! But, once I deleted all of my Limewire files (including the ones in my preferences folder) and downloaded Java again, it ran like silk! Thanks a million!! :-)

daveyt1 November 10th, 2007 01:17 AM

The suggestions for getting Limewire to install and run on Windowas Vista worked like a charm from Wondering Why, It takes a little time and patience and you must follow his steps to the letter. BUT if you do as instructed , you get LW up and running fine with no errors,no conflicts and no freezes. Couldn't have done it better nor been any more clear and concise on what you have to do.Listen to the guy, he knows his stuff...... Thanks, bud. Dave.

meeb November 11th, 2007 10:59 PM

I had the same problem. It stopped at 12% under WinXP. Then i did shift+rightclick on the limewire.exe => execute as ... Administrator. Although my user already WAS or at least seemed to be administrator on my machine, it worked then. At 12% the configuration wizard is opening when you start it for the 1st time. and thats what was blocked before. Hope it helps u as well.

Compat button

Right-click it, hit properties, then at the top there are multiple tabs. One is Compatibility. A third of the way down the screen, on that tab, there is a box to check that says "run in compatibility mode" and then a drop down box of OS's to run it with. Just let it choose XP. That's how it worked for me anyway. Good luck.

LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

Teraclips November 18th, 2007 01:36 PM

I finally did it!! It was just easy I just run in compatibility mode like you people told too, and I was like "I have vista and im running things like xp wth" than i thought maybe I just try it again since it finally worked and I turned off the comp. mode to normal(vista) and it loads smooth.
Tyvm to you all.

Just Another Guy November 18th, 2007 01:40 PM

Okay, I tried it again, and it works... But now, LimeWire opens upon start up, and when I exit, it just keeps popping up. I know there's something about this, and I tried that. I tried to uninstall LimeWire, but it said I needed to close LimeWire to uninstall, but it keeps opening. My uninstall screwed up, as I still have the folders and such, but when I try to click the, it says I can't find them. I tried to download BFU and everything, but before it gets done, it gets "Error '7': Out of Memory."

wondering why November 19th, 2007 02:20 AM

Hmmm, not good, you definatley have a worm, but you could very well have something else as well...

Could you disable your current Anti-Virus app and download AVG, make sure you update it and run a full system scan and see what it finds...
AVG free

If it finds a virus, follow the recommended steps that AVG gives you to get rid of it and then try the BFU fix again...

If you still have problems go to one of these sites and ask them for advice...

Limewire Opens Constantly, keeps trying even though uninstalled

I've been looking all over these forums and keep ending up back at square 1.

When I have limewire installed, it opens constantly. As soon as I close it, it opens again. From what I've found- looking up the problem online- it says I have a worm, and the reason it keeps opening on it's own is because it wants ppl to d/l things from me, and get the worm as well. No matter how many suggestions I've tried - spybot, etc virus protection things to remove the worm, none of them find it.

So I keep uninstalling limewire. But when I do that, it continues to try to open it, and gives me java errors etc, because something keeps trying to open LimeWire, but it realizes it's not there to open.

I need help!!!! There has to be a worm on my pc, it makes sense.

I have vista so some replies to these questions don't work as well for me..

HELPPPP!

stumitch November 24th, 2007 04:21 PM

Mine does that and after some advice from ET at work installed Avast and its seems to have sorted it out. Still opens on its own some times.

snazzyan November 24th, 2007 04:22 PM

Unfortunately that's what I had in the first place- Avast.. and it never caught the "worm."

This is so annoying, I guess I just have to use my pc with a constant error in the background.

Polish Punk December 5th, 2007 08:53 PM

I've tried just about everything that everyone has suggested on here, all the Jave uninstalls and re-installs, all the offline installs, all the compatability changes, the "run as administrator" stuff, the correct uninstallations...etc etc etc. My Limewire is STILL stopping at 12%! I have a laptop with Vista on it, and Limewire USED to work on here untill recent. What am I doing wrong and what else is left to try?!?!

wondering why December 6th, 2007 11:30 AM

Try the removing and replacing the gnutella.net file...

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

Polish Punk December 6th, 2007 07:19 PM

I've searched for the Gnutella.net file, not luck finding it. Where would it be if I can't even find it when searching for it?

Polish Punk December 6th, 2007 11:46 PM

Ok, I was finally able to find, delete, and replace gnutella.net...but Limewire is still not going anywhere beyond that 12% mark.
