Is LW connected at all (any green bars)? Rather than turning off your firewall, make sure that it's configured to allow LW

Try port forwarding for your SpeedTouch, the instructions are here.
Port Forwarding for the Thomson/Alcatel SpeedTouch 585
Make sure to set up a static IP address first, or port forwarding won't work. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router should all be the same number.

Try this version of Java. Download the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version(s) before you install this one.
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
