Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Can't get rid of Limeshop reference in Config sys!

Hi/ I just bought a new Toshiba laptop and tried to install an old version of Limewire from about 2002. It somehow automatically upgraded itself to the new beta version 4.17. I then deleted all the shortcuts on the desktop to Limeshop and the Cassino (betting shop) etc but then I got a pop-up message on startup that said...
"Could not find the Main Class"
I took my machine to the local computer repair shop and he installed the latest Java Runtime Engine: version 1.6.0_04 but it still gave the same message. So he then took the easy option and went into Config Sys. and disabled the below startup item...
Java(TM) Platform SE6U4 | Command: jawaw -cp "C:\Program Files\Limeshop\System\Code" Main ip: "C:\Program Files\Limeshop"
Location:HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run
However this has now left me with the little message that comes up at startup that some startup items have been disabled which fortunately fades out quickly. But that is not really satisfactory on a machine that is less than a month old!
I have uninstalled all traces of Limewire/Limeshop as well as going into the registry and removing all traces of Limewire from there, as well as correcting every related item (that I could find) to point to the new java runtime environment 1.6.0_4 but still I get this little message about the above startup item being stopped at start-up. Or if I engage a normal start-up, I once again get the message that the "Main Class" item cannot be found! It's got me beat!!!
I have tried everything I can think of to remove this reference to Limeshop from the System Cofiguration section in the Admistration settings including trying a little utility called Startup Control Panel which normally allows one to delete or move these start-up references, however every time I try to delete the reference in it to this Limeshop start-up item from within this utility it replaces itself with an exact copy of the above startup refereces??? and I'm just about at my wits end! I even tried downloading the "Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility" but it does'nt show any reference to Limewire/Limeshop so I can't remove it with that either. My next step is to take it to another repair person and see if he can go in through F2 (The Boot section) and maybe/hopefully remove it from in there. If that does'nt work the only hope I can see is to use my System Recovery Discs and return my system to its just purchased stage and hope that that works.(fingers crossed)
I would deeply apreciate any worthwhile suggestions you people may have to hopefully avoid taking this drastic step.
This is very frustrating and I'm so disapointed that my new machine has developed this bug in such a short time.
I cannot think of anything more I can do. I've read all the forum items about Limeshop and none of them refer to this specific problem. I'm not a complete novice I did a course to level 3 at tech and I know a bit about going into the registry but I'm not totally confident in getting stuck right in, and maybe mucking more impotant things up.
As I say any suggestions would be greatly apreciated as to how I can remove this reference to Limeshop from my new system.
Yours hopefully...

FIXED!!!! How I did it is written below.

First I re-installed the old 2002 version of Limewire that had Limeshop in it then went to the Registry Editor (Run: regedit.exe) and from there went to (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run) there I found a reference to Limeshop which previously had not been there after uninstalling Liimewire in the incorrect manner ( I should have used the Windows uninstaller and uninstalled the two references to Limewire in there and then proceed in the manner which I'll try and explain here.
After you find the Limeshop reference in the HKLM Software section, delete the whole reference to Limeshop from there. Then you should see that the reference to Limeshop in the System configuration section [Start-up](Run: config.sys) has been completely deleted and after a restart you can then delete the LimeShop folder in C:\Program Files and everything should be back to normal so that you can run a normal start-up from the normal section (Load all device drivers and services).
The place to find with Run/RegEdit.exe and delete the reference to Limeshop is: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run
I'm so happy that I finally nailed this problem!
For a while I thought I'd have to resort to using the Recovery Disc to set everything back to the way it was when I made the Recovery Disc set when I first got my computer. (phew!)
The most important part is to re-install that old version again and don't just delete the folder that contains all the LimeShop data.
During the re-istall of the old version it may say that it's trying to install an earlier version of the Java RTE but don't worry! it settles for the current RTE 1.6.0 and somehow?? also automatically upgrades itself to the new 4.17 beta version of Limewire.
(The only hold-up is might be that it insists on having a music download folder in a place other than your ordinary C:\ folder section. I just put a folder called Music downloads in Desktop\Users\robert and everything went along OK.)
Most importantly don't just remove the Limeshop folder from within C:\Program Files as this will prevent you from deleting the reference from within the :System configuration section. (Run: config.sys) Leave the Limeshop folder where it is until you go into your registry editor and delete the section pointing to Limeshop from there.
This problem had me pulling my hair out! But after re-installing the old 2002 version and proceeding as above all the pop-up error messages at start-up have stopped and my system is back to 100%

I'm no genius when it comes to using the Registry editor, (it's a bit scary for me too!) but don't worry, provided you follow the steps outlined above you should have no troubles whatsoever.
I'll keep my eye on this section of the forum for the next couple of weeks in case anyone else has the same problem and requires a little help.
Good luck and.....

Yippeeeee!!!!!!!!
