Last week I could search documents and find what I was looking for, this week, no results are found

I'm using an old version of Limewire (4.9.37). I am also on a computer that is running windows vista 64-bit. After much trouble getting Limewire to work at all, I have run into this problem - can anyone offer a solution?

Last week I could search an author name and I would receive plenty of search results - this week I receive zero. I've tried different author names, book titles but get zero results. The selection for ebooks on Limewire is amazing. I wish I could get this to work again.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Do results for other searches show? (music, video etc.)

Are the connection bars all green or blue? (UP or LW Pro) and does it have a steady connection? (no red bars showing at all)

Limewire Pro 4.9.37
Blue bars = Turbo Charged, steady connection
I can do other searches such as for music and I get search results, but
when I choose to do a document search, there are no search results.

It's the weirdest thing, Limewire was working fine last week, I found all sorts of books. I havent changed a thing on my computer, no new software, no setting changes, nothing - everything works except Limewire when I'm searching documents.

Hope this helps.

Try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within LW's options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things to the way you like them.
Vista users: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

You could also try disabling ultrapeer capabilities (tools > options > speed > tick 'disable ultrapeer capabilities > apply > ok) & see if that makes any difference.

:)

Usually those periods of no or little search results only lasts a few days. A week maximum AFAIK.

I have tried the suggested fix of deleting the preferences folder. This still did not correct my problem. I had ultrapeer disabled already so I tried enabling it. Still - no LIT files show up. It's almost like that file type is being blocked somehow. I am now receiving very few PDF results but no LIT files at all. Is there possibly a universal block on these types of files?

Thank you for your helpful suggestions, I'll keep trying until we resolve this.

Ohhhhhhhh.........
Document Sharing: To better combat the inadvertent sharing of sensitive personal information, documents are not allowed to be shared with the P2P Network. Documents may only be shared with Friends.

Well... that sucks!

AFAIK that's applying to LW 5 users.
And LW 5 users who do want to share documents with everyone (P2P Network) can do that by changing LW's options. LW 5 isn't allowing document sharing by default - it's not stopping people from sharing documents if they want to ;)

I just did a non specific search (using 4.9.37) for lit files & found several hundred, so they are around. Rather than using the Documents search, try using All Types. Try searching for author name lit or author name .lit or book title LIT etc etc.

An 'All Types' search for Author name ebook also generated results including lit files. What you find is probably going to depend on the popularity of the author that you're looking for. Don't forget to try searching at different times of day - as people in other time zones log on & off, files available for download will change.

Something else that you can do is connect to different Ultrapeers. UPs are people who handle a lot of connections & help you to search. Because you can't search the whole network at once, changing the UPs that you're connected to will effect the search results that you see.

Click on LW's Connections tab.
On the Connections page, you'll see UPs that you're connected to. Check in the Time column & see which ultrapeer has been connected for the longest time.
Right click on that host > Remove. That ultrapeer will be replaced by another. Now start a new search for your file, or search again from the download window.
If you don't see any improvement in results, remove the next ultrapeer. And so on...

See whether that helps at all :)

And just double check that lit or .lit isn't listed in LW's keyword filter (tools > options > filters > keyword).

I guess since I had LW 5 installed at one time, now pro 4.9.37 wont work - at least in finding .LIT file types (*sigh)

I can find music still.

There is a downside to having win vista 64-bit, stuff isnt compatible.

Thanks for trying anyway.
