Though I have an adequate knowledge of programming using scripting languages, I am neophyte to exactly how Java and Java classes work. After I downloaded the LimeWire Pro software to my computer, I also had to install extra files for the Java 2 Runtime Environment v1.3.1_04 (17 MB +). This works OK when I am downloading media from LimeWire. However, when I am in any chat groups requiring Java, I get this Java console appear in the task bar with the steaming coffee cup and often get a dialog popping up saying that Java classes (*.jar files) are being downloaded. What is this Java console and the Java virtual machine? Often when I am in chat rooms, the browser locks up completely and forced to completely using the Task Manager. These problems only occurred after I installed LimeWire. What's happening here? I am running under Windows 2000 Professional. I am afraid that if I delete the Java 2 runtime environment completely, I won't be able to use chat at all and obviously won't be able to use LimeWire either.

Try going to Control Panel, double click to open Java 1.3.1_4, select the browser tab and unselect IE and Netscape.
Good luck, Norm |
