Question download chunks

I'm sharing linux isos and sometimes it takes days for uploads to complete.

I know that uploads happen in chunks, but this is not reflected in the progress bars.

Sometimes I need to reboot, shutdown, and I have no clue whether I am messing up somebody's download.

What's the best way to deal with this?

If you have a static IP people will have no problems finding your host again. If you don't have a static IP all you can hope for is that somebody with a static IP pics up your files and shares them.

Does that mean uploads/downloads are not broken up in chunks, i.e. you can't begin a download from one source and then complete it from another source (assuming the file is identical)?

I have uploads showing 'complete' after 4%. Does that mean other user uploaded just a chunk or is something wrong here?

thanks again... sorry to keep asking, but I'm just trying to get up to speed.

The upload window only shows "complete" if the remote host completed a chunk and disconnected from you (because it does not want any more chunks).

If you started a download from one host you can (of course) finish the download from a different host.

I am just getting a lot of 'transfer interrupted' at anywhere between 5% and 20% and very few 'completed'.

Are the 'transfer interrupted' ones completely wasted?

thanks again.

No, "transfer interrupted" uploads can/will be resumed.
