Is anybody of you running Limewire via SocksCap? V1.2 worked fine on my machine (Win98SE), even when I didn't use the "Force IP" option, but V1.3 only works if I run it for the first time OR without SocksCap (I can do this for troubleshooting, although I really >should< use the SocksProxy)... When trying to connect via SocksCap ZoneAlarm only asks whether it should allow the program to connect to the internet, but not if it may run as a server. So my theory is that Limewire1.3 tries to connect to a server, waits for an answer and then quits for some strange reason. But why? Because it can't get any reply?
Reinstalled V1.2 and it seems to work OK... (TIP: Always keep copies of your old installation files and change the name so that you can see which version it belongs to!)

Well, still don't have it working every time but have a little more info.

1)it is not neccessary to uninstall Limewire before reinstalling it.

2)once you have installed Limewire 1.3 it is possible to correct this problem by going back to version 1.2. Just make sure in this case to uninstall 1.3 first...

just my 2 cents.....

good luck

I wrote a really long answer to the problem addressed in this thread, but unfortunately I left one field blank that was required and when using my back button, the entire message was deleted. I am not going to retype the entire post, but I believe that the problem here is a firewall issue. First off, if you are not using ZoneAlarm or ZoneAlarm Pro as your firewall, then you need to run, run, run to www.zonelabs.com and download it. ZoneAlarm is free. It is the best application firewall you can get, and it is FREE! If you don't believe me, go to www.grc.com and read until your heart wrenches at how vunerable you are using an opposing firewall. If any of you have additional firewall questions, or would like me to rewrite my looooong post that was erased, e-Mail me at trajik210@lycos.com

Thanks,

IMHO, it's not a firewall problem. I've tried several different firewalls, icluding Zone Alarm, Norton and no firewall and get the same results. Limewire only loads once, then I have to download it again. This only started about 3 months into using it, now it won't work at all.

And LIme wire people; I've sent e-mails and asked for help.Does this company not respond to help people out?

I've gotten this hang/freeze thing going on as well, and as with others, it was okay for a while, and then this started happening when no other changes had been made to the system, or the firewall. Uninstall/reinstall has been no help (not even the 'run once then crash' kind of help) installing the recommended Sun Java 1.4 (I had 1.3 before) had no effect, either. I can't figure anything out.

I'm using Windows 2000.
