When you run the shortcut to limewire, and the "Searching for javaw.exe" Window comes up, quickly hit browse, then go to your WINDOWS folder (C:\Windows) and select javaw.exe. Now your Limewire 1.5 should work, enjoy

If it continually asks for the file, which it did for me, copy it to the system folder, where LimeWire automatically looks for it. Kirby Last edited by Kirby; July 4th, 2001 at 04:53 PM. |

We are working hard to solve the missing javaw.exe problem. I haven't yet been able to reproduce it on my machine. More information would be helpful. What OS are you running? I'm guessing the answer is Windows98. Also, can someone with a broken LW run the Windows search command and tell me where javaw.exe is located on your system?
Thanks to those who have reported the problem and reported fixes. Christopher Rohrs Sr. Software Engineer LimeWire |

My trouble with Win2k SP2 is that the Java RE never gets properly installed, therefore I also get the searching for javaw.exe too.
When LW attempts to install JRE, I get a "Can't run 16-bit Windows program" error box. Any ideas? |

I found out what was going on that made JRE during the Limewire 1.5 installation. I use X-Setup and had turned off "Create 8.8 filenames (NTFS partitions only)" and "Allow extended characters in 8.3 filenames (NTFS partitions only)"
Once I turned those back on the install went smoothly. I only wish connections would happen faster with gnutella or Limewire, which ever one it is. Brent |

The Windows javaw.exe was my first idea, too, but I've noticed that the installation installed JRE. You can use the JRE's javaw.exe too, it should be a bit better (but not very noticeably). Anyway, you should fix the installer for this...
