Newbie cannot locate ANY programs

I am completely new to Limewire and am probably not doing something I should be. I have been trying to locate 3 programs and have had my PC searching for more than 12 hours but nothing is found?!
I am probably NOT doing something essential. Any thoughts - if this sounds like a standard newbie question.
