Default How to get rid of everything?

I installed the free version of Limewire a while ago, and then decided there wasn't anything I really was looking for anymore. I uninstalled the program using the uninstaller. However, there are some advertisements that I am still recieving from time to time. If I am connected to the internet, occasionally a window will pop up (not a browser window like from javascript pop-ups, but something installed on my computer) advertising something. I was pretty sure this was installed with Limewire since I do not have anything else that might have had adware. I asked a friend about it, and he mentioned a popular adware program called "gator" however I was unable to locate it searching my disk for "gator.*" I didn't mind this when I was using Limewire, since accepting the ads is part of the agreement, but now that I have uninstalled it, I really would like them gone. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this? Even if it was not installed by Limewire, I would still appreciate any advice offered, thanks.
