LimeWire will NOT connect! I am a university student living in a dorm who has just downloaded the latest version of LimeWire (v.4.0.8, or whatever it is) from the LimeWire website. My problem is that when I open up LimeWire and it automatically attempts to connect, it never makes it past the "Connecting" stage. It tells me that it is Connecting... but then after quite a length of time it finally just gives up and disconnects. I've got no idea what the problem is and, surprisingly, there is nothing on the subject on the LimeWire FAQ. If anyone here can help me out, please do. I don't experience this problem with p2p programs like Kazaa (though I did have a similar problem with BearShare). (BTW, I allready tried re-downloading, re-installing, and all things of that nature) |
Since gnutella clients like BShare and LimeWire wont connect but Kazaa will, that should tell you that the university IT folks are blocking the usual gnutella ports. Change your LimeWire port (tools->options->advanced->port) to the similar port your Kazaa uses. |
Intelligent firewalls can block Gnutella traffic very effectively. You may not be able to access the Gnutella network from your university. |
