Default help install & uninstall

I'm just running into problem after problem with LW today... *sigh*

First off I'm running WinXP with SP2. I upgraded my Java to 1.4.2_06. I did fix the windows firewall settings, however at some point I went back to double check I had everything setup right and realized my IP setting changed to my computer name... so I tried again and sure enough it keeps renaming it. Anyways I went ahead with the LW install (english version) anyway and it installs fine but when I launch the program I get a blank screen that says welcome at the top (nothing shows up in task manager, but it does show on the process screen). So I uninstall/reinstall a few times to see if something went weird. Still the same problem. Then I tried the windows installer cleaner. Didn't do anything. Tried to see if I needed to update my installshield but unless i checked it wrong LW doesn't even use installshield to install, it's their own installer. Lastly, I uninstalled the english version and tried the international version. The install went fine, but now when I launch the program not even a blank box comes up... i chekced the task manager and nothing comes up there but it does show up in my windows process screen. So now i'm trying to uninstall the international version (thru add/remove programs) and I'm getting an error doing that too.

It says

Fatal Application Error
This Application has Unexpectedly Quit
Invocation of ths Java Application has caused an
Invocation TargetException. This application will now exit. (LAX)

These are the details it shows:

I even went thru explorer to the program folder and I found an uninstaller data folder and tried running the uninstall limewire application and got the same error.

can someone please help me.... either get it to work or get it off without just deleting the folders....

thanks in advance!

The english installer does use installshield. The international one uses InstallAnywhere and installs Java 1.3 (and enforces that LimeWire use it). You'll actually see better performance if you install an international JRE of Java 1.4 or higher and use the English installer.
If you're having problems uninstalling LW then try the installer cleanup utility on the international LW.
Update your intallshield engines. Make sure you still have Java 1.4 on your computer. Try again.

If still having problems with your installation, you can try is:
1. Repair LimeWire using the Add/Remove Programs utility
2. Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and changed compatability setting to Windows 2000.
3. Update your Java version 1.4.x OR version 1.5 (take the JRE)
4. Trash the LW Preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed!)
