I installed Limewire and everything works fine. When I shut the program down and go to reopen it, I get the windows to start loading, then they freeze and lockup the computer with the windows blank. If I reinstall it it will work fine again untill I shut it down and restart it. Same results everytime. I have the new java installed and I am using xp pro. Any ideas as to fixing this?

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire or/& re-installing Java by downlding from the link I gave & saving it to your computer (don't install over the net.) 1st uninstall the previous Java using the Add/Remove programs control panel.

Thankyou so much for your help Lord of the Rings. I did everything you asked and LW still locks up my computer only if I shut down the program and go to restart it without rebooting. If I leave the program running in the background it is fine and when I reboot it works fine as well. Of course I really don't like leaving programs running in the background when I am not useing them but if I have to I guess I will. I wonder if this is just a bug in the program. I would be willing to try any other thoughts you may have on this issue.
Thanks again Useing XP Pro, 2.53 celeron P4, 512 megs of ram |

I have this same exact problem only I'm running Windows ME. I thought at first it was some spyware or something. I checked with both Spybot and Norton Corporate and that helped none (even tho it did get rid of the spyware). I forgot the exact name of the error message that came up (I had to uninstall just to get my computer to startup again) but it was something like this:
Explorer has caused an error in Shell32.dll. Explorer will now close. Hopefully this helps alittle. Also for extra info, I'm running Windows ME with a 1.3 Ghz Pent 4 and 512 RAM. |

I am useing an ATI all in wonder 8500DV.
I am getting no errors it just freezes and locks up and then I have to reboot for it to work again but only if I shut off the progam and try to restart it again. As long as I keep it running in the background it is fine. Should I try another program, hate to, kinda like LW? Are there any others that work as good as LW? Thanks again guys for your help |

Hi Chris40
There seems to be a bug with the ATI catalyst. If you just use the ATI control panel and set the Direct 3D options to default, That should clear up the problem. You can search, upper right between f.a.q. and home, for -- ATI --- x800 ---- or --- Raedon --- you will see other have had this similar problem and how they fixed it. |
