Default Startup too slow on Windows!

I have 4.8.0 PRO paid version. It crawls on a Pentium 4 with 512 MB ram. Why? Could the fact that I upgraded to Java 1.5.2 have something to do?

When I start LW, it basically overtakes the entire RAM, all other software that is open suddenly stalls, until 5-7 minutes, after which LW appears and all is back to normal. How can I reduce this startup time?

craigm,
Maybe you need to tell some of your lesser needed programs that starts up when you login, not to load. Some you can start manualy. To many programs will slow your bootup time.

I am not talking about my boot time. Limewire does not start with my Windows. I am talking about Limewire sabotaging the CPU and memory when I start it ANYTIME. Thanks for any ideas.

Someone should make this a sticky. As discussed at length in this thread a few days back downgrading from Java 1.5.x to JRE 1.4.2 does the trick. Limewire starts at rocket speed for me now.

People may argue till kingdom come about how good the improvements in Java 1.5 are, but if it doesn't perform, well it has to stand in line as far as I'm concerned.

Hope this helps someone.
