Default Mayday

I got it too... Been keeping track of the various files found; winupdate, winupdates, MsUpdate, svchost, ms-update, winlogi, msmovies, maplom, wmplayer, and dropper.vb.lu.

I seem to have the svchost variant in my startup. This was not there before I had problems. Startup was empty. I also saw a post where svchost is a valid program, and not a virus.

So, is this a virus or not? Do I delete this or not??

Also, I seem to have no system32 file or folder, but I have 5 svchost.exe programs running. I found taskmgr in a folder called 16b2c96a0c41f4dfdb4d3cc28a4f819 located in C:windows/softwaredistribution/download

Anybody...?

It all depends on wheather it is SCV or SVC host. One is a worm the other is a windows program. SCV is the worm.

Exclamation Mayday

Okay, I realized I needed to make all files and folders visible, and found the files and have them copied to the desktop. I uninstalled LW, and stopped one svchost process. The problem has not reappeared since, but I know it's still there. I do not see any of the common viruses listed in TM. System Idle is near 100%, I assume that's normal. Apparently it's hiding under another - as yet unbeknownst to me - filename.

Exclamation Mayday Solved!

GOT it! The way I fixed it was to download the virus protection from AVG.com. It's totally free, and appears to have gotten it all. Ctl-Alt-Del now brings up the task manager. I haven't reinstalled LW yet, I'm still a little gun shy...

None of this worked for me. I had been hopeful finding these threads and seeing I wasn't the only one with this problem, but after going through these steps for the third time (even after I had gotten the worm off my system) nothing is working. Limewire still opens every few seconds on it's own, and even when uninstalled it opens a message citing an error with an invalid file.

For me there was no 'winupdates' file to be found anywhere. I followed the advice found on Symantic's website for this particular worm, and Limewire is STILL spazzing out.

Help?

Im new to the forums and only joined because of this problem

My limewire was continually restarting until i deleted it completely from the computer and followed the steps. after i opened the taskmanager, there is no winupdate.exe or anything similar, and there is nothing using lots of processing apart from the System IDle processes one. i know there is still a problem though becuase my ctrl+alt+del doesnt work at all

if anyone knows what the problem is or can speculate to what it might be please let me know
