You need to be more specific. Are you refering to a portable mp3 player or an mp3 player program on your computer? For a portable there's no doubt a manual that came with your portable player. There's generally a media manager that helps as a go-between so you can easily drag & drop the songs onto the media manager & thus transfer them to the portable.
