Do you get the BSD (blue screen of death) before your computer restarts? If your computer crashes or LW is not closed properly before shutting down the computer then it can corrupt the downld preferences. Generally BSD is caused by hardware such as graphic cards, etc. not being fully compatible with other components on the computer. Some programs will act as catalysts to set off the problem but the underlying problem is the hardware in most cases! Here's some forum threads that discuss BSD issues & some answers (click on links): 1. 1. Link 1, 2. Link 2, 3. Link 3, 4. Link 4 Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider? 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. BTW what is your prefered language of communication? |

I use LW as an abbreviation for LimeWire. It's easier & faster to write. I'm not sure what your problem might be that would force your computer to restart. I might ask a few other people for ideas. |

Salam alleikum Ante, I think that with disk activity caused ny LW your computer is overheating and thus restarting. You might want to get more cooling in your PC case with fans over the CPU/motherboard. Do you have a temperature sensor to monitor the heat? I don't see what else it could be. As for Java, http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp get the JRE, not the SDK Ciao |
hay man salam alikooo i download this link from jre Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language jre-1_5_0_04-windows-i586-p.exe 15.54 MB and about hot cbu mmmm than mean many thing i need to test and fix ..but u know i feltt long time my pc got hottt i will see and re ask u yah man salam |
your PC is most likely overheating. most likely the cpu to be specific. open up your case, get your box running, and observe the fans and what they are doing. do a google search for Everest, it is a rather useful utility that will give you one hell of a lot of info about your box, including various temperature readings. your cpu (which I am guessing is a damn P4 Prescott) should be around 50C. you may need a new (or better) heatsink, and remember to use Arctic Silver thermal paste! |

your computer has its own way of saving its life. if it senses that it is too hot, it will solve the situation by shutting itself off. the P4 Prescotts are notorius for running hotter because of the 90nm technology used in their design. but, from your mention of Intel 530, it is obvious that you have one of the new LGA775 cpus. they also are notorius for running hot because of the same reason (90nm technology). download the Everest utility I mentioned, and pay attention to the temps given. from what I have read, said processors do run hot, but if properly installed there should not be a heat issue. but if imporoperly installed (sub-standard heatsink, no thermal paste, etc) there have indeed been plenty of problems. and take a look inside your box to see if there is a problem with the heatsink/fan combination for the cpu |
man you are sooo hard english pls i am not genius in english be easy and soft with me in english language i under stand some thing from ur opst and some thing did not in end summarize ur post by is my pc hardware good not good very good if good i will change all the fan if not i will change all my pc.... i wanna limewire work goooooood and great that all what i wanna . thank you man and soft with me in english i mean easy |
firstly...download Everest, available here: http://www.lavalys.hu/index.php install it, and then run it and look for the temperature of your cpu. it will be listed under Computer>Overclock |

well it certainly looks as if your cpu is running at an acceptable temperature. and I have to admit, I overlooked your statement that without LimeWire your box performs fine (sorry about that), but you now have a fine little utility (Everest) which will allow you to monitor what's going on inside of your box. I would have to say that perhaps you have a virus or somesuch that is causing your problem, which means a virus scan is in order. or perhaps there is some sort of problem with the newest version of LW |
1 Attachment(s) ante1 I would like you to do somthing. While LimeWire is running could you press down and hold #1 Ctrl + Alt then push Delete this should bring up windows task manager. #2 Click on the letters CPU this will make the % of CPU usage line up in order of amount of usage make a note of the programs and how much they are using. System Idle Process 10 exoplorer.exe 10 It may be possible you have a java issue and you may be stuck in a loop. I hope the picture helps explain what I want. |
It would be interesting to check the cpu responses/heat/wattage after about 5 hrs. If it tends to crash/self-reboot after 6 hrs, keeping a monitor upon what's happening with the cpu 'might' lead to some guides toward the problem. It may have been a stuffy ram piece, or anything. A unreliably sized heat-sink is a possible cause 'if' it is a heat issue. It might also be related to how you use LW although that is purely the catalyst & not the underlying fault. Some defenses against LW being a catalyst to the problem: 1. Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! 2. Reduce drag on LW & if necessary reduce no. of files shared if 1,000 or more. 3. See the following link & follow all the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help: To continue files downlding (click on link) (I must'a had this window open a while b/c I didn't see Grandpa's response! ) :) |
her is my ctrl_shift+del 1 Attachment(s) i hope u can get it from the pic as i wanna see what hapened her |
How long had LimeWire been running when you took the picture |
only less 10 minit (Grandpa) i thing u wanna me, take it after an hours . but i was so hurry cuz i wanna do what u wanna me to do .cuz that so bad when i get my pc restart it self while i am downloading some thing impportant to .,..any way if you wanna me get apic after h`s i will do and thanx for ur attention i will do (Lord of the Rings):D :D |
In the pic you left I do not see anything wrong do everything you did before when LimeWire was running. If you were on the Internet wile it was running before then do that. Did you notice your computer getting slow before it would quit. |
1 Attachment(s) after i start download evry thing in the task maneger move and this pic for now ..mean 2h lim wire work |
It still looks good but you are getting a little high on your memory usage I am guessing you only have 512mb of ram and you are at your limit of available memory right now if you are running Windows XP. I also see you have a firewall do you have a router. |
my pc restart it self :( my pc restart it self now after 1h run limwir i get restart so bad i cannot download any thing ...all download gone ____ yes i have fire wall and what u mean in rauter>>>>> i stell work at my pc 4h without lime wire and my pc did not restart it self --- i run lime wire 1h my pc get restart it self ---- now i can be sure my hardware is good my software is bad but what is the bad limwire or windowas xp i thing thare is some thing wrong with lime wire what i can do pls i cannot under stand why my pc get srestart it self while i am using the lime wire .... lime wire is great p2p program and i cannot delete it never so pls any idea:confused: |
ante1 In the last picture I saw you were using 343mb of memory. I also read in a earlier post that you are running Windows XP. Windows XP needs a minimum of 256mb of memory to run and 512mb is recommended with all of the other programs running you are using all of the memory you have. Your memory may be over heating and causing the problem. I would recommend that you have the memory tested to see if it is bad. If it is replace it and I would also recommend that you add more memory than you currently have. If it was me I would go to at leas 750mb 1gb would be better. I can not guarantee this will work but without being able to actually work on you computer it is the best advice I can give you. |
Hi ante1 The computer restarting like you mentioned after a certain amount of time running, means that your CPU Unit is running at the wrong speed. Sgt |
Sgt Please clarify that what do you mean by the wrong speed and where did you come up with that. |
In the last picture I saw you were using 343mb of memory. I also read in a earlier post that you are running Windows XP ((((grand pa)))))) _______________ man my ram 512 not 343... it is really 512 cuz when the man give me it he give me 2 ram 256+256 and what that wrong speed??????? and if that maybe can hapened how i can be sure --- EVEREST Corporate Edition...this program tell me 3000mgh and pls let me back to lime wire ant the broblem with restart it self why that hapened and how i can solve or fix this broblem >> some thing more for ((((Sgt)))) if that true that mean will y pc restart with and with out lime wire but what i see and sow my pc only while i am using the lime wire |
1 Attachment(s) this is the system ..... |
Yes it is really 512 (256+256=512) I do not know what Sgt is talking about I know your CPU voltage is correct from looking at the results you posted earlier. The 343 I refered to is if you look at the bottom of the picture you posted it says on the bottom of the Task Manager,(Commit Charge: 343/1250) the 343 is how much memory the programs you have running are useing. How long ago did you change the memory. |
ante1 Have you ever over clocked your computer I see it is running at 3.04GHz What brand and model is your computer. I am going to bed now so I will not be getting back to you until tomorow it is 2:45 AM here now and I am tired. |
did not buy the ram it come with my pc all but i see the man when he install it (2part) so is thare wrong with ram ? or what or all currect ------------ i did not over clock my pc and how i can know if some one do it or no that mean i wanna know the real number of my cbu mybe all that come from the play of cbu ....any help/ |
your ram is correct. Did somebody build your computer or was it made by a company. I need to know the Brand and Model number so I can look it up on the internet. |
Hi Grandpa The reason I came up with that is the Cpu could be over clocked, I once bought a 486 dx 25 wich was over clocked to run at the speed it did , but did not know it at the time. I got ripped off, green in them days, I also have had people come to me with computers restarting themselves after a certain amount of time, and every single time it is the Cpu running at the wrong speed and has been over clocked. The only Other time a computer has come to me that wasn't overclocked, it was because the drivers were conflicting with each other Sgt |
Sgt........... today i open my pc sbu and look it say 3000 and my windowas say 3000 soo no over over clocked? and about conflicting sgt ....let me know how i can do and how i can know about it ...waiting let me fix it |
Hi ante1 Have had a look at your computer specs, It should not reboot Itself unless the computer is not cooled properly ie you don't have enough fans, for that kind of specs you should have one on the Cpu unit and 2 others. Or some of your drivers are conflicting with other drivers, I Have found that in a Lot of cases when I Build Computers that the order you install the computers drivers ie motherboard, video, soundcard exct has a lot to do with it Sgt |
I suspect from ante1's mention of watching the man install the ram, that this box was made by someone local...an iffy proposition at best (both boxes that I had someone make for me were trash,,until I rebuilt them..and the 2 that I've made myself work just fine) it just might be a ram issue, though at this point I'm leaning more toward agreement with driver conflicts..also, a virus/trojan/malware just might cause this crap, hence doing a full scan would be a damn good idea... |
Sgt / Peerless Unfortunately I am not a Intel man prefer AMD myself. I did a little research based on the information that ante1 has provided in this thread. I do not think ante1 is overclocked I do not think the CPU is overheating. From my experience have built and broke several computers. I love to break things according to my wife. ante1 either has a bad stick of memory and it may be overheating or a driver issues. That is why I recommended having the memory tested. If the memory is good I would still add another 512mb if you want XP to sing you need it. Any way if the memory does test good then it is probably a driver but usually if it is a operating system conflict you will get the blue screen of death. Check out the links below and see if you can come up with any more ideas. CPU/ http://indigo.intel.com/compare_cpu/...&culture=en-US CPU operating Temp/ http://processorfinder.intel.com/scr...ALL&CorSpd=ALL Motherboard/ http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p...Neo-V&class=mb |
Hi Grandpa I must say that personally I have never had a computer restart because the ram is overheating, even if it is faulty, usually it will just refuse to start and make a bios noise, and I have built them for a living for the last 12 years, also If the ram is faulty you usually get all sorts of other problems from progs not being able to start to corrupted writes, but then you learn something new everyday I will look into this Sgt |
appendix I Also run an Amd machine, prefer them to Intel Sgt |
Another possibility is the fan may have gone out or be bad in the power supply. I did have one machine that had a bad stick of memory and would overheat. It irritated me it was brand new and it took me a while to figure it out. But you are right it did give a system beep before it would shutdown and my computer would slow down, that is why I ask earlier if the computer was slowing down. But I bid not get a BSD and it was on a MSI motherboard A8V deluxe I believe but don't know for sure. |
if thare some broblem with ram ...my pc will not get start .... so and i go today to a place whare fic pc`s and the man thare gote alok to my pc and he did not know what the wrong ......(bad to me ) after he look he say un install ur vga drive and re install mmm ok i back home and did and install old drive for my vga card (ati) he open cbu and clean the dirt and he look to cbu (3000) and re install it. and itern on my lime wire after 5h my pc restart it self and all my download stop to complete ..... so bad to me and another thing (grand pa) i try all what u say and did not fix my broblem (Sgt) i try all what u say and did not work my ram is ok and no over clock i am so sad i dont use my pc for long time and that mean i do not run my lime wire last i get lime wire pro and same broblem .... why that hapened with me all ok i go to msi site and tell thame thare and no answer so bad people thare ...mmm maybe busy or did not see my massage anye way ..i am stell waiting any idia can help me now i am go to update mybiose and all the chipset of my pc maybe that help me .... ok i am now sooo disturbed and sad ....in end all what i wanna is my lime wire work good ... maybe my fire wall ?i have sb2xp and kasber sky fire wall ... any idea??? another .....my fan is good cuz the man thare take alote and it is good start with 2544round up 3222 |
well d00d, hate to say it, but have you thought of trying another reputable Gnutella client like BearShare Lite? go here to try it out: http://www.bearshare.com/lite/ |
Hi Grandpa I have talked to a couple of Computer Technitions I know, They said the Ram could overheat, If It was set to the wrong Voltage in the Bios, the've never come across it overheating for being faulty (I Bought them a beer for this?, Knew That already) I had them look at the specs for this computer They said they could see nothing wrong with it Everything seems to be within the normal ranges it should be They said it could be the hardware drivers conflicting with each other The Abbit K7s were really bad for it, The drivers had to be installed in a Certain order or you Got all sorts of problems Ie BSD or the computer restarting itself for no apparent reason Another Possiblity was that a program on the computer had not shut itself down properly and was conflicting with another one trying to use the same part of the memory, so the computer shuts itself down for protection Sgt |
Peerless.....ur idea in my mind ....but lime wire is great safe clean fast but if this broblem sttel ...be sure i will do ... and(Sgt) yes maybe thare is some conflicting and that make me happy to thing that cuz it small broblem .... but before i unistall all drive and re install new v. i will reun my pc fot 10h with out lime wire so if i get restart i will uninstall all drive and re install ...if no restart i well uninstall lime wire and in stall (((((((((Gnutella client like BearShare Lite? go here to try it out: http://www.bearshare.com/lite/))))))))) |
Hi Grandpa Just a quick post while she's next door I Don't Know If this could have something to do with it, but here it is anyway, might help somebody. http://www.blackviper.com/AskBV/tech10.htm Also The only other thing I think it could be (just thought of it) was when One person brought A computer in that was restarting when surfing the net, It was Because he had updated his modem Drivers and windows Didn't like it. Ater I re-installed the old modem drivers the computer was fine Sgt |
ante1..please note that BS lite has no added components...i.e. it is as safe as LW;) |
Hi ante1 Just curious about one thing I saw in your computer specs. Not sure about this but are all your video display and chipset drivers current. I noticed you are running an older version of display adapter drivers for your ATI Radeon display adapter. I noticed this in one of your task manager pictures. It may also have something to do with your chipset drivers if they are the incorrect ones. It is possible they may be the incorrect ones or they may be conflicting with others drivers in your computer that may not be up to date. I would suggest making sure all your drivers in the computer are current and up to date. Does your computer run okay when LimeWire is not in use/running? |
Sgt Thanks for the info Sgt now I know why I had a bad stick. Seeing how I like to overclock things. That is why I have switched from Kingston to Corsair it takes the juice better. The way I am set up right now I am out benching a 3.3Ghz Intel P4 . But if I want to do any more I am going to have to go to watter cooling. Can't make up my mind go FX 55 or water. Did the tecks you talked to say whether it was common for a computer to shut down from a software issue without the BSD appearing. I may be wrong here but I thought it would always show up with software issues. |
Hi Grandpa Your like me always trying to push them just that wee bit further;) Broke a few computers myself trying it, usually frying The cpu BSD have even been known to happen with computer components One of them told me, he had it happen with a video card in the early nineties, but could only remember it had french sounding makers name. I have had it happen with one as well, after installing windows when it detected the card, it would throw that annony blue screen up, till I had Install windows with another card, then change them back again, which it accepted, these were Nvidia Ones. I have also had it happen with dodgy cpus Sgt |
