Default ALL LIMEWIRE USERS NEED to READ THIS!!

I don't like being forced to run LimeWire as an Adminstrator.

Hmmm... very dangerous and a very bad idea. How do you think the RIAA is able to get into your computer??

YOU LET THEM IN THE MINUTE YOU RUN AS ADMINSTRATOR!!!

IF you logon to Windows as Administrator, or as a user with Administrator access, you give ANY intruder free access to EVERYTHING on your computer.

My suggested way for Windows 2000 and Windows XP users to use LimeWire:

1.) Logon to Windows as a User or Power User (or Limited Account on XP Home Edition).

2.) Right-click on LimeWire. A shortcut popup menu appears.

3.) On the popup menu, click on the Run As... command. The Run As... dialog box pops up.

4.) In the Run As... dialog box, select or enter the user: Administrator and enter the Password.

5.) Click OK to run LimeWire.

NOTE: Do NOT have LimeWire configured to run at system startup--AND, when you're done, EXIT LimeWire. That's VERY IMPORTANT!! Get on, use it, and get off!!!

The reality is that while you're connected to servers via LimeWire, as Administrator, your computer is vulnerable to unauthorized entry and attack.

Yes, this sucks for the rest of us when we're looking for files, but it is as safe as a Windows user can be on here, considering what LimeWire expects of Windows users.

LimeWire needs to address this serious security issue. I read the FAQ on Firewalls, but not a word about using LimeWire with the built-in firewall in XP to minimize our risks. Even then, some ports are open--and that's just part of being on the internet. There is NO 100% security on the internet. In fact, we are all rather wide open on here.

Would you give someone free access to your entire house? Then why give anyone on the planet free access to your computer?!

Serious food for thought, friends!

For more info on security, visit the site of Gibson Research Corp. and run the FREE ShieldsUP! to see how vulnerable your PC may or may not be.
