How did you uninstall LW? The right way to do it is via start > all progs > LW > uninstall. People have run into problems trying to uninstall via add/remove programs.

It all sounds a bit fishy & I suspect you may have a virus (was LW popping up all the time before uninstall & impossible to keep closed?).
