Uncontrolable downloading

Sorry if this has been posted before, or is a common topic but I searched for a while and didn't find an answer so here it is:

In the past few days, Limewire has been uncontrolablly downloading compressed files into my shared folder by itself. They're randomly titled and come in waves of about 300. Each time a delete a group of these unwanted self-downloaded files, they will appear again in a few minutes. I tried deleting limewire and reinstalling it, and even disconnected my internet, but they still appear.

Other information:

While I have limewire downloaded, each time I close it it starts itself back up automatically immediately. After I delete limewire, it tries to open back up, displaying the Limewire 4.12 thing it always does when it starts up, but then it displayes a message saying some error that's "usually caused by a corrupt file" and recommends "reinstalling limewire".

Also during the reinstallation, I get two different eroor messages. One says to close out limewire, becuase I have it running in the system tray. I don't, and I couldn't because it's supposed to be deleted. Another appears later saying that there was an error detecting the file "Limewire.exe." Both of these messages have the options, "Abort", "retry", and "ignore". Ignoring it just installs limewire and the same problem presists.

And suggestions are appreciated.

You have a virus. Click on the link below for more info
WARNING: Viruses on the network you should be aware of

You could try this fix if you like, it has worked for people
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...&postcount=141

If you don't feel confident about trying that fix, or if it doesn't work for you, go to Norbiesworld & get some free computer help. Go to the site, register & follow the directions for free computer help:wink:

Always make sure that you're using a good AV program. Keep it updated & scan all files that you download before opening!

Make sure that it's not set to run on system startup. In LW tools > options > advanced > system startup. Untick 'run on system startup' & apply.

If LW still keeps opening after that, you've probably got a virus. Follow the "viruses on the network" link in my post #2...there's a lot of info & various fixes within that thread. If you like, try the other fix I've posted there as well.

If none of these work, or you don't feel confident to try, get some free computer help from Norbiesworld. There's a link to his site in post #2.

Thank you!

The fix worked, and I haven't had any more problems since. You were very helpful.
