i just recently downloaded a file of mpg type, when it is done downloading i tried to delete it bu cannot, what is the possible solution to this? when i right click on it there is no delete rename properties. please help this might be a virus

Two things I can think of,....
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode and try to delete the file from there.
Second, if the first doesn't help.....thorough check of your system with any (I'd say ALL) programs of the following list....

Sometimes just pressing the delete button in LWs Library works.

Alright, here's some advice...
Get virus scan. NOW!
Then, if it's not a virus, try the following...
First, the Secure Shredder in Spybot Search & Destroy.
If that won't do it, go to the command prompt, get to the correct directory, and type "del filename" (minus the quotes).
If the file name is insanely long, move all MPG files from the folder to another one, get the command prompt to the right directory, and type the following.
del *.MPG (that's "del" then a space, then the asterisk, then .MPG. then hit enter. Then type dir/p, and see if the file is still there. If that won't do it,
try this. Go to start menu, then my computer, right click your hard drive, hit properties, then to to tools, and try "Error Checking". If none of those work,
then I dunno what to do....

not sure if you've fixed the problem yet, but i've had that problem a couple of times with avi files. assuming you have run a virus scan and it's come up clean then the file is probably corrupt/partial download, or is using a codec you don't have. i found the problem was with windows XP. it has a feature that gives a preview in the details box on the left of the file you have selected so image files, video clips, MP3s etc are all previewed. the problem is that when you have a broken file, windows will attempt to scan the entire thing to determine its properties. which in turn will cause high cpu usage and will prevent you from deleting/renaming/moving a file. so, easy trick to try? right click the file and select 'cut'. now open your recycle bin and paste the file. then empty the recycle bin. hope that helps.

I had this same problem with a .jpg file. File shredders didn't work, antivirus didn't detect it, and there was no way to modify it at all. Finally I just went into limewire and deleted it from the library ... and POOF it's gone

and it's not a corrupt file and there are essentially no options to choose from, including cut or delete. I definitely think its a virus, I'd recommend deleting it asap.
