Default Ogg Directshow Filter

I have no trouble playing downloaded videos through Limewire. However, when I attempt to open the file where they are stored to play them directly, an icon appears in my tray and the computer freezes. When I put the cursor over the icon, it reads "OGG DIRECTSHOW FILTER". My CPU stays at 100% and I have to reboot.
What is OGG DIRECTSHOW FILTER and how do I get rid of it?

Default Mpegs

The video files are all mpg's. As soon as I open the folder that contains the video files the ogg directshow filter icon appears in the tray and computer freezes, so I don't get to the point where I can try to play them.

First scan with anything and everything you got. Antivirus/spyware etc. use a registry cleaner to remove invalid paths and such.

Keep taskmanager open when accessing the folder so you can find out what process or program causes to 100% CPU usage. Try stopping the process/program to see if CPU returns to normal.

I would suggest that you make a HighjackThis log and post it at e.g Norbies world to see if someone spots something out of the ordinary.

If that doesn't help:

Do this in steps. Like in removing something then trying again if the problem persists. Make note of any error messages and access violations.

If you have an empty external, try moving the entire folder to it. In case of access violation message install Unlocker and use the shell extension option.

Try removing all your codecs to see if it helps, but this is probably due to a bad download.

Then see if you can access the folder after removing them and if you can, burn the files to disk and then delete the whole folder.

If you still can't access it then delete all mediaplayers and see if that helps with access.

It has been pointed out to me that this may also be an infected plugin, that has been downloaded for your player, so you might want to try that first

Default Thanks For The Help

I do have several burning programs, including Nero. The process that goes to 100% in the task manager is explorer.exe (not iexplorer.exe). I think that might be where the bug is.

Well, that creates a whole new set of problems. You can not end the explorer.exe task. It's the interface of Windows.

Just try the rest of those step by step instructions.

BTW the explorer.exe task using 100%, points to it being one of your videos. Did you by any chance download some video that had scotto or dvl in the filename. Those are known to be bad.

Also did you download a lot of video prior to this happening, or only a few. You could try deleting those in safe mode using command promt.

Try using unlocker to move the folder. It might work, or will give a more specific error message

Is it possible for you to access the folder through Nero, without it going to 100% CPU. That way you could just burn the files and then delete them of the computer.

i was jus browsing through this cos i encountered the same problem for awhile and couldn't figure out what to do considering there is very little help out there and im guessing that only a very few ppl suffer from this problem.

But just as mentioned, my machine froze up when the ogg directshow thing popped up in the system tray and locked the machine up.

Ok, what I did

Run dxdiag from the start menu, command prompt whatever.

Hit "Save All Information" tab at the bottom right when its finished scanning. This will produce a notepad file which you shuld save to desktop to look at.

Open this notepad file and press Ctrl + F to bring up the search and simply type ogg hitting enter key. This should point out the problem OggDS.dll files linked to the system lock up.

Go to the search menu in start up and look for the for the suspect files you have uncovered from the dxdiag notepad file such as the OggDS.dll. Enter these into the search and delete accordingly.

Some would be located in the system 32 folder which is fine, others you may find with your media players like VLC. Being extremely pi**ed by this point of with the lock up issue, I deleted all the associated Ogg files which seems to have done the trick.

If anything, you can always download whatever u need again, probably a bad download in the first place that caused the problem.

Safe guys, hope this is of some help.
