Using Chat
 

I must be simple, I cannot work out how to use Chat. I left click on the host then right click- drop down menu - click on chat with host - then nothing !
What am I doing wrong ? or am I incredibly thick !!!!!!!!

If you want to use Chat.
Like many of us DO, to inform people there Sharing Virus files.
The last version that worked half decent is 4.10.9
No one can Chat with anyone using 4.12.6 not even with 4.10.9

I'd like to hear the answer to that myself. Here's the deal..you try to get a file from me and you are not sharing or I can't browse your files or ask you to open up a slot for me and I'll do likewise, I'll kill your upload and so will THOUSANDS of other decent sharers. Having no chat is causing a lot of unnecessary kills on this end and it is a huge cause for festering freeloading because you have absolutely no way to educate a newbie or call out a freeloader. If killed uploads and freeloading is what LimeWire intended to accomplish, then by all means, don't ever fix the Chat function and judging from the date of the very first post concerning it, it looks like it never will be fixed.

I apologize if I kill your upload folks but I will not brook CONSTANT and UNASHAMED freeloading.

The LW devs were not even aware the chat had stopped working until AFTER the Beta came out. As of yet, they've yet to release another beta or regular version but they promised to fix it. ;) :)

Freeloaders are not really that easy to detect. I've browsed someone & it showed zero results of shared files. 15 mins later they had 600 odd, 20 mins later about 60, etc. This has happened so so many times. Sometimes the browse function is not reliable & does not always show the total no. of files a user is sharing. I can only guess this is due to lack of slots or busy & lack of bandwidth to mirror or obtain any search results during the browse search. This issue of browsing to see if someone is sharing or not has been debated for 2-3 years already. Browse is simply NOT a "definitive" method of finding this out.

im a newbie nd im sharing but i cnt seem to chat to anybody - and a lot of the files i want seem to tke forever to uplaoad - it seems a bit unfair if the system is not working that he downloadss uploads are killed just cause you cany chat - what are the rules ? Im confused

The chat function was accidentally disabled. Check out the new version of LW 4.12.10, it may have been fixed. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

Its There Now on the LimeWire.com page If theres a flashing update on the bottom of your L/W page Click on it, it will take you there.

i would like to ask another queston if thats ok - how come every time i go to direct connect my ip shows diffeeny ? is it suppodsed to ? pleazzzzz be kind to me cause im trying hard to sound like i know what im saying !!!! to the best of my knowledge im sharing how can i check ????????? thanks oooops thats 2 questions

I downloaded 4.12.10 in the hope that the chat problem would be fixed, but no luck. Now I see there is a new version out 4.12.11, although in the feature history it doesn't say what's new for that version. Does anyone know if chat works in 4.12.11? What about the beta 4.13? If not, are there any plans to fix it?

I did take time to get the upgrade, and it worked the first time i tryed. Now i cant seem to get it to work again. I dont know whats going on???:PEACE: :yikes:

I have 4.12.10 right now and chat works with some people but not with others... perhaps the problem is both you and the person you're chatting with need to have 4.12.10?

Yes I beleive thats correct, the chat worked up to version 4.10.9, its broken on versions up to 4.12.10 so Yes we need to get rid of that horriable 4.12.6
That one surely Is the worst one ever made, Yet most people still have that version GO ON CHANGE IT FOR THE LATEST VERSION, Comunicate with other users Tell them when you see they are sharing fakes n virus files.

I'm using 4.13.0ß Pro, and as far as I can tell the chat still doesn't work.

Thought there wasn't much a need for it, jabber jabber jabber, I don't want to chit-chat with people.....until today.

Got 75% of a 600+meg d/l, puter locked up and had to reboot. Only one host that I could find had the file available, and I guess once he saw I'd finished he took it down. Would have really been nice to be able to tell him what happened and just see if he'd re-post it for a few minutes until I could finish.

That particular host could have been just ignoring me, so I've been trying to chat with various and random hosts for the last hour just to see if anyone would answer.

Even a screaming "LEAVE ME ALONE" would at least answer the question, so far....nothing.

I'd have to say, "I see no evidence that it works or that it has been fixed".

You're still using the 1st & only release of the beta 4.13.0, it was not until after they released this version that they found out chat didn't & hadn't worked for a couple of releases prior. So I believe LW 4.12.11 now has a functioning chat.

hi my old son I changed too latest lw and could not get half the results in search specially music so reinstalled 4.12.6 if you know where I was going wrong much aprecciated take care tony

I know this thread has been idle for a while, but because I do not know how to start a new thread (I am a total newbie to this forum thingy!) I thought this was the most appropriate thread to pose my question in.

Which versions DO support Chat? I have 4.9.23 PRO and I can't seem make it work. Would I be better off with the latest Basic or Beta version, rather than the older PRO? (that the older version of Limewire Pro by the way, not the other)

Its Sad but for ages Chat has been not working, 4.10.9 is the last working chat
untill now, Lotr says 4.12.11 works, I believe its just the 4.13 beta.
But even if you choose a version where Chat works, you will only be able to chat with people as stated using up too 4.10.9 Then the 4.13.
If someone Has used chat on 4.12.11 please say so here.
Reid the one you have should work but the problem is as its getting very old
java may soon no longer support it, when that happens you will have no choice but to update.

New thread button is found in the forum section index. ;) :) BTW take your choice of Beta or latest LW version. I happily use the beta. That's if you wish to change version. You may consider changing your version of Java. Either up to 1.6 or back to 1.5.11 Some versions of Java don't work well for some people. Just as some versions of LW don't work well for some people.
