Question What's wrong with adverts?

This post is about adverts in Limewire.
*This post is NOT about spyware.*

Limewire have been going for over a year. They contribute to make Gnutella better, and they give us a version of their software for free.

If we don't like the free version, we have three options:
1. Pay $6 to get the Pro version, with no adverts.
2. Spend time trying to remove the adverts, and in the process cut off Limewire's revenue stream.
3. Use something else.

Option 3 is clearly not as simple an option as it first seems, judging by the amount of posts regarding option 2.
Option 2 will kill Limewire - and judging by the amount they do for the Gnutella community, it won't do much good for Gnutella.

Adverts aren't all bad, and $6 isn't a lot of money.
And no, I don't work for Limewire - I'm just trying to judge the options we have with an open mind.

Adverts aren't bad at all - and I don't mind them. But they have a tendency to turn into pop-ups, which in turn have a tendency to turn into 'bet you can't close ALL these windows' type games. I don't know if advertisers actually think this is a clever form of advertising, ****ing off their possible customers, but it certainly makes me remember them - and remember to never buy from them ever ever again. If I ever even see an X10 camera, I will stomp it into tiny little bits.

There is the other side of the story too, in which the 'spyware' programs are 'optional' to install - except for the two (adp and bargain buddy) that it doesn't ask you about and just installs - there could be more too, I am not quite sure yet what 2.02 has done to my system.
