I have windows XP, with the newest java. I downloaded it, and it will not open! It goes to the loading screen, it loads, then goes off. I checked my Task Manager, and no limewire is running. I tried the executable jar fil trick, and it did not help either!

Oh yeah. Everytime I try to start it or click the executable jar file, it puts an error word pad document in the LimeWire program folder.

If you've been using Java 6 & reinstalling doesn't help, try reinstalling Java JRE 1.5._11

Delete LW's preferences folder. See point 3 below (also point 2 if you've used much older versions of LW in the past). This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through & reset things afterwards.

Now reinstall LW & make sure to use the offline installer.

If that doesn't help, try changing compatibility. That's point 5 in the 'fixes' thread.

If it's still not opening, have you installed/updated any security programs lately? Make sure that LW's on the exceptions/allowed list for any antispyware etc.

Programs like Pestpatrol & a number of other spyware programs will damage LW. If you have such spyware programs let us know which ones you have.

* If you go back to Java 1.5, remember to Uninstall java 1.6 first before you install Java 1.5

Thanx guys this worked for me (ie: uninstalling Java 6.1 and loading Java 5.0).

Question tho - is there going to be a fix for this in the next version of Limewire? That would be good.

I've tried everything, deleted all Limewire files, uninstalled Java, redownloaded java, I have done everything! I used limewire about 6 monthes ago, but I had to uninstall it because I had a fatal error, now limewire will not work! Limewire hates me!

I also tried the older java. NO GO!

keep getting message,l/w is currently connecting to network. your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the network. but nothing happens. any advice. norjon1
