"Unable To load the Java Runtime Environment..." i have basic Limewire version 4.12.11 installed on my PC, and when attempting to open it earlier, it came up with an error message that read "Limewire was unable to load the Java Runtime Environment. Please donload and install a newer version from http://www.java.com". So i went to the Java website, and verified the java i alredy had installed, and it said it was already up to date, so i updated my limewire to its newer version - that didn't help. So i removed all Java programs i had on my Pc, and reinstalled them, restarted my computer, and tried limewire again, and it came up with the smae message. What do i DO!!??!:yikes: |
Did you install the Online or Offline version of Java? Offline is always the best way to install Java. Certainly you did well uninstalling previous versions. ;) Otherwise, uninstall java again, and install this slightly older version: Java 1.5 (take the JRE). Also, before you open LW next, do this: Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) If that doesn't work, look at other options such as changing compatibility mode of LW. And also uninstalling LW using the Start menu>Programs>LW>Uninstall. Then downloading this version: Download ‘Other’ version & simply unzip & use! |
i changed the compatibility mode, which did nothing... if i delete that folder, will it get rid of any of the files i've downloaded from limewire?? should i try uninstalling all my Java programming again, and reinstalling the offline version first, and THEN try moving the folder? I'm just afraid that i'll have to uninstall Limewire, and that i'll lose literally thousands of files.... |
Depends where you are saving your downloads to. By default they are saved to this location: C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Shared. You can check by going to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Saving to see the location. If you are saving them there, then removing the LW prefs folder or LW program will make no difference. Just next time you open LW, make sure you choose the same location, well it is the default location anyway. ;) It might be a pain, but try the offline Java version first; ie: removing other versions, then installing Offline version. If all that fails, then uninstall LW. Then use the suggested version if all else fails. |
Oh my gosh, thank you so so much!! i tried the older java version (offline) and it worked!! THANK YOU!!! |
