Hi there everyone, I have taken some short video on my digital camera, uploaded them onto my pc, and now want to burn them onto a dvd or cd to send to someone else.

I am using the camera software to burn to disc, and it comes up that the files have been sucessfully added, however, when I put the disc in pc or dvd player, the files aren't there.

They came off my camera in bmp. form, and the next lot of video I took suddenly were .mov form.

Do I have to convert them to something else? I don't know a lot about this stuff so can somebody please help?

What software are you using to burn to disk? It helps if we know. Programs like Nero will burned combined video formats into the one disk. We need more details.

thanks LOTR, I don't know if I am allowed to mention brands, but I have the K***K software that came with the camera, and to manage my photos and from there, I save them to my pc. From that software, I choose which videos I want to burn to disc, then click on "burn to disc". I thought it sounded too good to be true.

I do have Nero, but I haven't tried that and don't really know where to begin, but could have a go. Should I burn them to DVD or CD?

When I burned the disc from the K***K software, the JPG photos came out perfectly when I popped it into my DVD player.

One more question. When I upload the photos/vids from my camera to my pc, and it uploads them in a .bmp or .mov format, do I just leave it at that, or do i change it when I save them?

I just tried to make a DVD of my short vids taken on my camera. I only got Audio, but no Video was there when I previewed it. the files are in .mov format. any ideas?

Sounds like a codec issue with your player/burner. For playing, we recommend this player: VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) as it has in-built codecs.

As for burner .. not sure how it loads codecs & whether it can read those loaded on your system. Generally, Nero & Roxio burner programs are reliable for video conversions. Other members on the forums have other options also.

BTW traditionally .mov format was QuickTime movie format, but unfortunately some other windows programs have borrowed the same format & adjusted it so QuickTime & many other players struggle to play them. As for yours, sounds like a codec issue.

I may have an idea or two.

First, you should check that the person you are sending your jpg files to can read them in his/her DVD player because only modern DVD players can read/play jpg files. However, any PC can play jpg files whether they are burned into CDs, which I think is preferable, or DVDs, typically a CD will hold 700MB of files and a DVD will hold 4.7GB.

As for what you should use to burn your CDs or DVDs, I think that if you are making a library of picture files with your jpg’s you can either use your Kodak or Nero software, it does not really matter. If you are sending a video file then you should use Nero to burn your video onto DVD. However, you could, if you want to, burn your videos onto CD using Nero’s SVCD or VCD facility, which will still play on most, if not all, DVD players.

My Jpg files are ok, when I put the DVD into my player... and the person I am sending it to, (If I ever get it made) is going to play it on their PC.

hmmmmmmmm Lord, it sounds like you might be onto something..........

I just tried to do a SVCD that UK Bob suggested, and the following message came up after I tried to insert my video file.....


It says "unable to insert C/: blah blah blah" then a popup window comes up from Nero saying. "due to patent licence restrictions, MPEG-4 decoding is not available." then invites me to upgrade at a special price

Do I need to do that before I can burn my videos to disc?

hmmmmmmm sounds like a way for Nero to make money to moi

You could try VCD, rather than SVCD, because there are no restrictions on that format.

BTW, what version of Nero are you using?

I am using Nero startsmart 6,6,0,1,9.

I have tried VCD, SVCD, DVD. Nothing works!!!!!!!!

Would anyone know what the message from nero re MPEG4 was relating to?

I'm getting very cranky and frustrated.
