4.14 making computer slow

Why does LW 4.14.# makes the computer very slow when LW is running? with 4.12 I didn't had this problem.

wondering why August 8th, 2007 12:34 AM

Have a look at the tips in this post...

Also try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....

I was wondering the same thing about version 4.13.11 Pro My limewire runs very slows now since I upgraded to the newer pro version. Even if I just click on a tab or something in limewire there seems to be a lag in response. I rarely have fast downloads anymore either.

Try defraging your computer...Also check and see how many incomplete files you have and sort through them, sometimes having alot of them can slow you down....
I'd also recommend a full system scan with your Anti-Virus and Spy-Ware scanners...;)

Actually I always defrag weekly whether I need to or not and get rid of incomplete files, etc. it was only limewire that ran slow like this and had problems with no response or slow response when clicking. I also tend not to run any other programs while I'm in Limewire either. I just upgraded to Limewire 4.14 last night. I think the other version I had was corrupt or buggy. maybe this upgrade will work but from what I've read in here, this one will be slow too. Maybe limewire is an energy hog. ughhhhh!

4.14 is a memory hog

I don't know why either, but I registered on this forum just so I could ask the same question.

:sos:

For years I've used & promoted Limewire to my friends as THE P2P app. I want to continue to do so, but not unless this problem can be fixed.

With 4.12 everything worked fine. Now I've updated to 4.14 and after a few minutes Limewire quickly builds up to using a huge majority of my CPU and a large amount of my memory.

I tried uninstalling Limewire, and all java versions, and reinstalling only the newest version of Java (I don't want Limewire if it won't work with the newest version of Java) and then reinstalling Limewire.

I deleted the old /.limewire folder, changed settings to disable ultrapeeper OOB capabilities, as well as the other memory hogging features.

A virus scan & spyware scan found nothing.

It is still happening, and it didn't happen with 4.12.

:annoyed:

Whatever changed, it's a problem, and it needs to change again.

I will not use Limewire until I see a fix posted in these forums, or until a newer version is released.

(Thank you for allowing me to use a large amount of fancy emoticons. This almost makes up for the annoyance with this new version...)

4.14 hogging memory - update

zab is assisting with troubleshooting in the limewire forum. Rather than stubbornly give up, I thought I'd keep trying to get to the bottom of this.

4.14 using too much memory. Why? - LimeWire Forums

FYI, I'm impressed with the speediness of his replies. I do hope we find the problem and a solution.

UPDATE: Click on the above link and go to the last few comments to see what seems to be the resolution for this issue.

I think if anyone is seeing the brickwall, it could be related to this specific sudden spontaneous memory hogging problem.

I think one might need to set Limewire and their router (if they use one) to UPnP if it isn't already.

Changing my router and limewire settings from manual port forward to UPnP seems to have stopped the sudden memory hogging problem.

Either that, or clearing the old extra windows firewall exceptions and reinstalling limewire seems to have maybe solved this issue.

THANKS!!!

Thanks! CamTheCat for the link, I installed 4.14.7, until now is working ok. I also did all those things they recommend us.
