burn issue play issue

Once I download and save the music to my pc when I burn a cd i cannot get it to play on a player they only play on my pc. I even tried to use a mp3 to wave converter so that I can put the music on my emails but that program is not recognizing this music, the music extension is .m3u and I cannot seem to change it, what am i doing wrong? Please some one help
