Why is Limewire such a CPU Pig?

My CPU is showing 98% maxed out from Limewire. Its a joke when I try to open another application. Is there a solution to this issue? My CPU is 1.8Mhz,2Gb RAM and SATA hard drives on XP. I would supply the version number but after wait 2 minutes for Help about to open I gave up. I have upgraded to the newest free version.
